Colorado Lets Contracts on US 40 West of Craig
The Colorado Highway Department awarded two contracts for the Craig to Utah line stretch, Cross Mountain to Maybell about 16 miles. Blanchard Brothers Construction bid 161,040.80 for 7.8 miles from Cross Mountain east, Monaghan and Kenney bid 102,163.08 for 7.5 miles, under engineer estimates. Projects due by September 1, 1937, with a separate eleven mule project east of Basin to connect, finishing gravel surfacing to the Utah line and making the Victory highway fully ready.

Funeral Services Held Sunday at Glines Chapel
Roy Duke funeral services were held Sunday at Glines ward chapel with Bishop John B. Eaton directing. A large crowd attended as speakers included Bishop John Hair Louis S. Gardiner and Archie Johnson. Musical selections featured Come Come Ye Saints Guide Us Oh Thou Great Jehovah and Whispering Hope. Interment followed at Maeser cemetery. Parley Godrich and son Hay of Tridell were in town on Thursday on business.

Armistice Day Program Set at Uintah High School
A patriotic Armistice Day program will be presented at Uintah High School auditorium on November 11 at 10 54 p m under Witbeck Post No 11 American Legion and Auxiliary. The event features war time songs YMCA Hut scene and AEF entertainers with Col Hamilton Gardiner as speaker. Taps and a one minute silence will follow the flag salute and a solo will be performed. The program also includes a banquet at 6 30 pm and a dance at the Imperial.

Pheasant Hunting Season Opens Sunday November 8
The pheasant season runs November 8 to 11 with a two bird daily limit in Uintah and Duchesne counties. Floyd Noel deputy game warden says birds are numerous this year and hunters should be successful. Quad may be hunted in Duchesne and Uintah counties during the same period.

Grazing Leader Vows Tighter Enforcement in West

At the Uintah Board of Education monthly meeting Vice President Ray H Reader presided with Cath erine Seeley Andrew J Vernon present. Due to two absences only routine matters were decided. Transportation and buses were discussed. Substitute teachers approved include Mrs Lee or Tridell for full time and Mrs Viola Pope and Mrs HM Snyder for half time. State Board requested a tentative six year improvement program: Vernal Central building 70000 dollars, Alterra junior high 10000, Alterra auto mechanics 10000, heating plants for Ballard Lapoint Naples 10000, new hardwood floors for multiple schools 11400, tennis courts for several schools 3000, warehouse/storage 10000 in Vernal. Superintendent Noble reported Whalow Creek running smoothly and all schools visited and in good condition.

Funeral Services for Mrs. David C. Caldwell Held
Funeral services at noon Saturday for Sally Viola Hal Caldwell 63 in the Vernal Second ward chapel were well attended. Bishop John Hair presided. She died Wednesday morning Oct 28 from a heart attack in her home. She was the wife of David Caldwell and mother of a large family. The service featured two soprano solos by Mrs. Mee Jorgensen and a closing quartet. The grave was dedicated in Dry Fork cemetery. Mrs Caldwell, born December 17, 1873 in Beaver City Utah, was among the valley’s early settlers and first white child in Dry Fork.

National State County Candidates Elected to Office in Big Victory
Funeral services for Andrew Winward will be held Saturday at 1 o clock noon in the Glines ward chapel with Bishop John B. Eaton presiding. Death occurred Wednesday at home after a stroke of paralysis from an unknown cause. He was born at Vernal April 29 1899 to William Andrew and Mary Jane Hicks who survive. He married Littie Ellen Gray who also survives with two daughters and two sons Helen Eunice Leland and Thoral all at home. Seven brothers and sisters survive including Henry Fon and Tee Winward of Vernal Mrs Martha Hart Mrs Ruth Sturgeon both of Vernal Mrs Mary Jane Bardy of Lapoint and Mrs Lillian Martinson of Ontario Cal. Interment will be in Vernal Memorial Park.

In Uintah county, the entire Democratic ticket was elected on Tuesday. Returns from 22 precincts show Roosevelt for president won 1893 to 1688, Murdock for representative 1847 to 1129, and other races led by Young as district judge and Reese as state treasurer with strong margins.
