A fragmentary wartime roundup from a Utah or Mountain States paper lists service members and relatives: Hiram Richardson’s brother Richardson receives word of capture in Australia after serving since Aug 1942 with training in Texas and North Carolina. Hatch and Lopez inducted May 1942 and April 1942 respectively, with updates on furloughs, stationing at Camp Stewart Georgia, and visits from families. Captain Ernest Henderson sails overseas with an anti aircraft unit after earlier instructing in Winter Garden, Florida. Grant McCoy Preece awarded medals and enjoying 15 day furlough. L Searles on leave from Army Air Corps posting in New York, with education notes. Captains Henderson and Hendricks tied to Signal Corps and airfield work. Ray Evans visits Vernal on 15 day leave after boat training at the Par- rsal Natal Training Station. Frank Stevens on furlough at Camp Bowie Texas with Tank Destroyers. etc.

Naples Couple to Be Honored at Golden Wedding

A Naples couple, Mr and Mrs GQ Southam, will be honored for their golden wedding anniversary with an informal reception Monday from 1 to 11 pm at Naples ward chapel. The couple, long active in the LDS church, have a large family of 13 children, 47 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren, with numerous descendants in Utah and Nevada.

First Day Brings $1100 For Hospital Fund Drive

Community support surges as Vernal Jaycees report over one thousand dollars raised on opening day for Uintah County Hospital Building Fund. Merrell Goodrich says more than 110 percent of the day’s goal was met and funds will be added to the county treasury, with campaigns continuing through November.

Armistice Pageant Presented by Uintah Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary will present the Armistice Day program at Uintah High School on Thursday November 11. About fifty participants have contributed to a thoughtful pageant illustrating Utah’s war effort and future needs. Principal speaker will discuss present problems and requirements sparked by the Armistice, with local citizens urged to attend as many missed the convention presentation. The pageant, directed by Mariel S Wallis and Edith B Shimmin, honors veterans and reflects on Utah’s contributions as Uintah County men serve overseas. The program begins at 10:45 AM to seat all by 11:00 AM, marking the 28th Armistice anniversary.

Early Valley Pioneer Dies At Maeser

George Pinchey Britt aged 84 died Tuesday at Maeser at the home of his son Leon Britt from a heart condition. Services were held today at 2 pm at the Maeser L D S ward chapel with burial in Rock Point Cemetery Maeser. He was a government employee longtime resident of Lashley Valley pioneers and moved to Maeser after retirement. Survived by five daughters Mrs Gladys Massey Mrs Marie McClean Mrs Helen Holfelix Mrs Jennie Rhodes of Vernal and Mrs Linnea Gullreath of Oakland. The family notes indicate a life spent in public service and farming.

Bridgeland Man Killed in Duchesne County Traffic Incident

Marie Lloyd Brady of Bridgeland was fatally injured when struck by a truck near Duchesne Saturday while walking with a brother Eldon Braty along the road’s right side. The two were hit by a vehicle driven by Arthur Lassen of Arcadia. Brady, born in 190? and living with Elsie Rollins Brady, leaves parents in Bridgeland, a widowed wife Zavta Claybourn Brady, four brothers and sisters, and a month-old daughter unnamed, amid a large Brady family in Vernal and Provo area communities. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s office reported the fatality was caused by truck traffic on the highway during daytime.

Stage Door Canteen on Armistice Eve at Imperial Hall

A November 11 Armistice event at Imperial Hall features a Stage Door Canteen with dancing, stunts, and raffles to raise funds for Uintah County relief efforts including the UBC and other charities. Citizens Ticket Re elected at City Election

Citizens Ticket re elected at the North Vernal City precincts with 44 votes and South precinct with 62 votes. Incumbent officers were returned, led by GBH Stringham for mayor and Francis Feltch for four year councilman. Donald R Barr, Sewards Russell Montgomery, Charles Toape, and Wilson Murray also named to posts.

Water meet calls for postwar irrigation push

O S Warden of Great Falls Montana president of the National Reclamation Association urged that wartime food production remain the priority while planning a three billion dollar postwar program to provide jobs for returning soldiers and demobilized workers. The convention backed continuing state water law protections and urged federal stream jurisdiction limits and unified aims among federal agencies including the Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation. Utah Population Surges 6.4 Percent Since 1940 Census

Utah gained 6.4 percent in civilian population from April 1, 1940 to March 1, 1943, rising from 49722 to 585003. Seven counties show gains, led by Millard County with 88.2 percent and Salt Lake County adding about Haber total while Weber and Sanpete mark losses. Drive Started to Raise United War Fund in Uintah County

The United War Fund drive opens within a week in Uintah County and across Utah. Henderson, county chairman, calls it one of the most important appeals, urging public support for seventeen national and international agencies aiding war fronts and devastated Europe. Under the National War Fund umbrella, leaders urge Americans to open hearts and pockets to meet quotas. Veteran Pvt Chapeose Receives Medical Discharge

Pvt Maxie Ghapport of UBMO, among the first to land on Tulsi Island during the Solomons campaign, receives a medical discharge for wounds. He returned to Fort Duchesne and, after Guadalcanal raids, was treated on a hospital ship. He married Alicia Bangerter in Tijuana, Mexico, and will reside with his mother Lily Wash in Fort Duchesne.
