CCC Camp to be Located at Ouray For Range Work

A CCC camp of about 200 men will be set up at Ouray within a month to work under the grazing act in Uintah county. Projects include road and trail work, watering hole and erosion control in Willow creek, with spike camps at Brush creek Jensen White river bridge and Rainbow mine. Expenditures may reach 25000 in the area as the camp aims to operate year round for at least two years.

Calder Brothers Build Fireproof Creamery Plant Expansion

Calder Brothers construct a new modern creamery plant of brick and steel roof near completion. The 1334 by 68 foot fireproof building will cost about 210900 with later front addition. Existing boiler and ice cream rooms remain in a remodeled section. Local labor and upgraded machinery accompany the expansion reflecting 34 years of growth producing high grade products.

Funeral services for Lester Taylor were held in Naples with Bishop Byron Croodrich presiding. World War Navy veteran, member of Herman Baker Post No 9, he died May 22 of pleuro pneumonia. Interment in Ogden. survived by siblings and one daughter Mia Larsen. born Sept 20, 1886 in Ogden.

River Trip Ends In Canyon Route From Colorado

Mr and Mrs Bus Yatch and Dr and Mr Wallace Calder completed a thrilling and dangerous river trip of 125 miles through the Yampa and Green River canyons. They started Thursday morning at 8 20 at Liberty Park Colorado and reached the mouth of the Green River gorge Sunday at 1 pm.

At Schneiders Hot Pots in Midway the Associated Chic Clube of Eastern Utah met Friday to affiliate with Associated Cliyb Clubs of Northern Utah. A dues cut to zero was approved, a advertising and road committee was named, and plans were set to promote Uintah Basin scenery and improve U 840 and secondary highways. Forest Fire Training Camp Held at Greens Lake

Engineer M Shank of the National Forest Service led a forest fire training camp at Greens Lake in the Ashley National Forest. About eighteen men from ringers helpers clerks and CCC camp staff received instruction on fire control. Weather limited field work but Shank deemed much was accomplished. CCC camp officials will repeat training for their crews this summer and with Boy Scout leaders starting July 20.

Deep Snow Reports From Mountains in Ashley Valley

Joe Luck visited Luck Saw mill on Taylor mountain Sunday and abandoned his truck to walk a mile to reach the mill. Snow depth ranged from 18 inches to four feet, with 18 inches at Buck Pasture and heavy snow in the timber up to Kaler hill. Water flow under the mill equaled three irrigation streams, and saturated snow could cause high water if warm weather returns, the first such rise in years.

Basin Advisory Employment Committeemen Chair Named

A five county advisory employment committee was chosen at a Roosevelt meeting with reps from Duchesne and Uintah counties. Mayor R C Cooper of Vernal was named chairman. James Dols gleish Myton vice chairman. Jease Fowler Altonah. Dean Powell Duchesne. John W Weaver Uintah county commissioner Vernal. Ray G Labrum Roosevelt serve as committeemen. The group aims to select contact men in each community to reduce dovetailing of work and help foremen secure workers faster.

CCC Camp Set Up Near Elk Springs Colo

A CCC camp of 183 men and officers is established at Elk Springs Colorado 65 miles east of Vernal on US 40. They will devote the summer to exterminating Mormon crickets on Blue Mountain. Men are from Arizona and Texas, transported via Craig on a special Moffat train and by 18 Colorado trucks. Craig men Blegin Wright Keeley Miles named foremen. Eight camp members visited Vernal to survey recreational resources and plan return visits.

Vernal Lions Attend District Club Convention in Richfield

Vernal Lions Club members plan to attend the Utah and Idaho Lions district convention in Richfield on June 23 to 25. A. H. Churchill led a seven week campaign with the Vernal Express promoting a scholarship drive and tax day events. He toured county areas, engaged 30 workers, and surveyed home newspaper usage finding many families rely on the Express for local state and national news. Mr A Bryson manager of Raven Oil and Refining reports $4000 improvements at the Rangely Cole refinery. A new fractionating tower boosts efficiency and yields a better gasoline and distillate. Trades Day Sparks Vernal Crowds and Busy Shops

Mrs William Merkley dies suddenly at age 77 from a heart attack in Vernal Utah. She had been ill since Sunday. death occurred before her husband could return from the Dry Fork ranch. Twists Paying To Start Soon In Vernal Area

RA Gillis district engineer for the state road commission said in a Vernal Lions Club meeting that nine miles of rock asphalt west of Vernal should start in early June after delays from cold weather. The Maeser asphalt plant, supervised by D P Maher, runs at full capacity turning out large daily tonnages of treated material. Over 100 workers are employed and likely to stay through the summer.

Salt Lake Denver Bus Schedule Starts June 1

Salt Lake City to Denver bus service will begin June 1 under Denvere Puchia Motor Ways. One bus departs Salt Lake City May 31, arriving Vernal that night, with Vernal reception at 1015 pm. A return bus leaves Denver June 1, arriving Vernal at 5 15 am, staying until 6 00 am. Two buses to start, two more possible later.
