Word reaches that Dr William Luther Pasting of 34 died at 9 00 this Thursday evening. No cause known yet. Funeral plans await word from relatives. Dr Pawling moved here two years ago to assist Dr H T E Rich. Elwan born in Pennsylvania. Funeral arrangements by Witbeck Funeral Home.
About 25 doctors attended the State Medical Association convention in Vernal on Saturday evening, with a banquet led by president F M McFlugh. Dr Genotti of Helper spoke on hay fever and Dr H E Rich served as toastmaster. The group toured Jensen’s dinosaur quarry on Sunday as fossil experts explained the beds.
Mountain Red pressed brick with a roughened surface will be used for the facing of the new First Ward chapel. Two local trucks will haul brick from Provo and Salt Lake City as work proceeds after the building committee approved the material. Architect plans are set and awaiting general authorities and presiding bishopric approval, with ground cleanup and partial teardown underway to begin once authorized.
Vernal Lions Club hosts a big Saturday night event at the Commercial Hotel gathering the Vernon five towns Craig Heber City Roosevelt Duchesne and Gate Way Club for a ladies night program and dance. Discussion will cover U 49 completion routing tourists through Uintah Basin and local scenic and historic attractions. Vice President Paul I. Cowan leads the program committee handling banquet and dance arrangements.
Vernal BPW members plan to attend the Utah state convention in Salt Lake City on May 27 and 28 for officer elections. Miss Alice Pederson is a candidate for state president, with delegates Ora Lewis Thorn King Helen Hemstreet and Pearl Slaffer listed and alternates White Louse Jorgenen and Alice Pedersen Bern.
Telegram from Frank E Baxter Jr reports the death of Charles O Baxter 76 a builder promoter of the Uintah Railway and gilsonite industry. He promoted the line from Dragon to Vernal and planned an Ashley Valley extension. Baxter fostered McAndrews and served as a major benefactor to Vernal and local industry.
Word has reached Mrs John Hacking that Mrs Clyde Hacking who was operated on at the LDPS hospital in Salt Lake City is getting along as well as could be expected. Mrs Wilson Murray drove them to Salt Lake City and at present Mrs Hacking, Mrs Ed Hoeft, and a sister of Mrs Hacking from Duisene are with her there in Salt Lake.
Mrs Agnes Charles leaves Vernal after a brief visit and plans to sail from San Francisco to England aboard the Panama Canal route following a peasant visit.
Miss Havel Sowards returned home last Friday from Salt Lake City where she had taught at Grant ma,h school during the winter session.
Conessman Don B Colton announces formation of a corporation focused on irrigation and land management. He states offices will be in the Continental National Bank Building Salt Lake City as part of his government affairs work.
Miss Sally Preas of Vernal a Barnard College student released an Army carrier pigeon from the Washington liner on its May 10 maiden voyage to Europe. The capsule carried messages to governors of all states praising contributions to the ship. The bird returned to Fort Monmouth New Jersey and the notes were relayed by wire to state officials.
Funeral services for Michael Olef Nash were held in Naples on Saturday at 2 pm with Lewis S Gardiner presiding. Speakers included Gardiner and A G Goodrich, along with Jacob W Olson and Jacob N Lubbert. Burial proceeded in the family lot in Salem Utah. pallbearers were Oliver Jr, Roy Alvin, Wendel Nash, and Bernard oarl.
Roland Lundgquist of Price spent Friday visiting Vernal for a short trip. The outing highlighted local sights and community ties as he toured the area with friends.
Judge Abel Turner sentenced John LeRoy Long age 20 of Fort Duchesne to three to fifteen years in the Utah State Penitentiary after a district court adjourned term. Long, a farmer and Texher of in cest, waived rights and received immediate transport to Salt Lake City for incarceration. Other court actions included estate matters for Wyman Reader Cook Longhurst Hill ArbeLa Davis and others, with certain continuances and appointments noted.
I C Thorne returned from Salt Lake City where he attended the conference of Congregational churches in session last week. He gave a lecture and showed slides of Indian photography at a session Thursday evening at Phillips church in Uintah County. He has received requests for a similar lecture from the Salt Lake Boy Scouts and the University of Utah. Also present at the conference were Rev George Guild, Mrs B P Kelly, Mrs Ora Hennetreet, Mrs George Baeso, Mes W A Banos, and Mrs J F Chapman.
County chairman Glen Muller says a lock was forced at the Red Cross store room in the county courthouse last week, but only a small amount of material and stores were taken.
Mrs Sylvan Ross of Tridel has left the hospital after seven weeks of serious illness following two major operations. She will stay at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Wm Mott until she is fully recovered.
More than 350 Uintah stake Aaronic priesthood members gathered at Morgan Merkley pasture Dry Fork for a spring outing. The day featured sports indoor baseball softball tug of war and footraces followed by lunch hiking and a campfire program with solos duets stories and talks by stake leaders and local youth.
Mir and Mrs J Cecile Alter of Galt Lake City visited Vernal on Sunday to gather data for a planned publication on Utah journalism history. They aim to compile insights for a forthcoming historical work.
Mr and Mrs Edward Hoeft of Iglines ward traveled to Salt Lake last week and will be accompanied home by Mar who has been tending the A at Tegan.
At the Stake Tabernacle meeting the Uintah Stake forms a baseball league to replace Ashley Valley. Eight wards enter two teams each with two games daily on Decoration Day and holidays. National League rules apply. trophies awarded to best records. season runs May to August with a full schedule and official umpire and scorekeeper for each game.
Captain Lipson leads 25 men arriving in Vernal to form the first 200 man emergency construction camp to be built at Brush Creek mountain north of the city. Recruits come from Newport News Hampton and Norfolk Obptetz and Maryland. Four regular army men from Fort Monroe assist with camp equipment and routines. Temporary quarters planned at Iron Springs with permanent frames in about three days.
Uintah County launches a rodent control drive led by County Agent E Peterson to eradicate prairie dogs with federal aid. W. J. Johnson, field agent, will oversee a program covering over 4000 acres, using poisoned oats and stychnine, with costs borne by the Federal government and county.
OCR shows a schedule of matches among Anenet 6 Seapoint Vernal First Tridell Davis Vernal Bucond Naples and other teams. Events list dates in September and September 16 and 23 with pairings like Davis at Glines Maeser at Latolnt and Vernal First at Vernal Second.
M S Gils of Price district road engineer visited Vernal on Tuesday with H Young of Oden and A W Hesyner of Salt Lake City to conduct monthly road inspections. They checked street lights and observed traffic rules on state highways in the region.
