Memorial day services will be held at the cemeteries from 10 to 17 a m May 30 led by Post Commander George H Chisty. Afternoon programs run 8 to 4 p m at the Vogue theatre featuring Invocation Rev M J Horsey songs America and Star Spangled Banner performances by a quartet and audience violin solo by Mia Mabel Olson selections address by Hon Don B Dalton solo Miss Mima Davis and a benediction by Rev G A Downey Civil war and Spanish American war veterans are invited to attend both sessions and sit on the platform for the afternoon service.

Assessment Increases Over Half Million in 1923 Rolls
The 1923 assessment rolls show a total of 6 742 278 up from 6 066 100 in 1922 with land values rising to 33 367 441 from 2 753 302. Unimproved land fell by more than 20 000 acres while waste lands gained over 300 000 in value. Livestock counted 160 844 head valued at 1 607 122 compared with 161 471 head at 1 479 448 in 1922.

Fencing of Stock Watering Reservoirs Now Permitted
The local land office reports an order dated May 3 1923 amending the act of January 13 1897 authorizing fencing of stock watering reservoirs on public land. Applicants may fence reservoirs to conserve or protect water with two gates and accessible water for stock. Fences can be removed by order of the Secretary. Congressman Don B Colton supported the bill.

Heart Attack Strikes Trader in Jensen Store
Ramsey Stewart of Jensen suffered a heart attack during trading at the L. H. Woodard Co. store. First aid was given by Archie Smith and others, a physician was summoned, and Stewart was moved to Mr. Woodard’s home then to Jensen. He is described as greatly improved but still ill. Mrs Stewart was horrified by the event. It is noted this is his first attack.

Duchesne County Takes Eastern Brook Trout Transfer
A trade transfers all Eastern Brook trout hatched at the Whiterocks fish hatchery to Duchesne County. They have already planted fish in Moon and other lakes. The next hatch will be Rainbow trout and go to Uintah county streams. Fish will be ready to plant in September.

R C Camp Former Vernalite Dies in Nevada
Mrs. John Glenn learned from Mrs. Irene Corsier of Currant Nevada that R C Camp died in Nevada on May 11 1923. His body was taken to Ely for burial with instructions from his son Hugh. Camp was a noted Vernal resident and former U S Commissioner and a trusted public figure. He was half brother to Mrs. Martin Allred of Naples.

Valley Baseball League Planned by Commercial Club
The Commercial club seeks to form a valley base ball league with teams from Naples Maeser Jensen Lapoint Davis Ashley and the Vernal First and Second wards. Four games weekly at 5 o clock or twilight are planned with Vernal clubs already organized and a valley wide turnout expected. The Vernal and Ashley valley rooms serve as headquarters for boy organizations as plans include reorganizing the Vernal band to run the league business with a local or outside band leader hoped for.
