Uintah County residents go to polls Tuesday to vote on a 7.5 million dollar Special School Building Bond Election to fund two new high schools and related facilities. The plan includes a west county high school and an Ashley Valley high school, with total project costs around 9 million when combining bond, interest, and existing funds. The board says bonds would not raise current mill levies. failure would require alternative growth plans.
Judges David Lam and George Dallis presided over secret testimonies in Uintah County Courthouse on May 11. Four Fourth Judicial District judges will review testimonies to decide if just cause exists to call a grand jury in Uintah County.
An open house and ribbon cutting at the Uintah Learning Center will be held Tuesday at 1:20 PM and 1:30 PM respectively. The center at 4149 North 2500 West serves students with special needs, replacing the Maeser School, which will be torn down after next week. Shirley Wilkins directs the program with four teachers and four aides. enrollment is 56 of 75 capacity. Built by Remea Construction, the $330,000 facility includes four multipurpose rooms with a stage, a rubberized floor, and nine teaching stations. Tours will be offered of both buildings, with punch and cookout served.
A loaded soda ash truck nicked a Utah State Paint truck causing yellow paint to spew down the highway from Steinaker dam into Ashley Valley. The semi driver Lauren Hunter Douglas, 32, Rock Springs Wyoming, reportedly had brake failure and passed a companion in another paint truck as both neared the grade.
Uintah Basin prepares for the 38th annual Junior Livestock Show and Sale from June 1 to 4 at Uintah County fairgrounds with 240+ exhibitors. Judges include Forrest Nelson and Nyle Matthews. entry forms due by May 20. premium funds exceed 2000 dollars for 4 H and FFA awards. Events start June 1 with weigh-ins and horse show, followed by day by day judging, contests, a Friday awards banquet, and Saturday sale. The program supports 4-H clubs and Future Partners, emphasizing good sportsmanship and cooperation.

The week-long activities lead to commencement May 27 at 8 p.m. in the Uintah High School gym.
