Governor signs bill to open rich western Colorado rail territory
May 12 Denver Governor Shoup affixed his signature to the Moffat tunnel bill making it a law. The project opens vast western Colorado territory and cuts Denver to Glenwood Springs distance to about 170 miles. Five commissioners will be appointed, bond issue totals 6.72 million dollars, with construction planned to begin August 15 and take about two and a half years. The tunnel will carry one track and allow power telephones telegraphs and motor traffic with no monopoly and regulations set by a tunnel board. Elevation is 9222 feet, lower than the current Moffat line at Corona.

ForgerY suspect held in Colorado road commission case
The fourth person tied to a forgery ring within the state road commission’s accounting staff has been arrested in Meeker Colorado and is held. Lamph former chief clerk of the road commission was arrested. He is accused of forging a time check for 160 dollars. Three other former commission employees are under investigation for falsifying invoices and records. two are serving one year sentences in county jail.

E A Manker keeps a two deer head trophy on his wall. Five years ago Fred Thompson found two mature bucks locked antlers after a fatal clash near Meeker Colorado. Serious accident at park playground involves two injured boys
Monday at the park playground Lewellen Bascom nine and Jack Esmay five fell while atop a slide. County official W S Henderson found them in a dazed condition after the unexplained fall. Bascom suffered a brain concussion and was near death, while Esmay remained conscious and reached home, possibly saved by landing on the other boy.

Paris May 14 The American Red Cross will close its main European operations at the end of June after ten years and more than 400 million dollars in aid. Moffat Tunnel Bill Passes On Coincidental Date
The Moffat tunnel bill, speeding immediate tunnel construction through the continental divide for the Moffat road, was adopted on April 29, 1922. David H. Moffat, who promoted the railroad to open Northwestern Colorado and Northeastern Utah, telegraphed from New York to Denver that eastern capitalists would cooperate. He said the tunnel would be built at once, twenty years after the initial declaration by the financier.

City Council Meets Request of Vernal Band
At Wednesday’s meeting the Vernal band representatives asked for 150 to fund summer usage. The council agreed to cover 60 personally, 75 from the park fund, and 15 by subscription. Officials expect the intake for the water supply to stand barring high water and will station men to keep driftwood away during floods as last year.
Deep Snow on Top of Taylor Mountain
Forester Harry VanTassel, back May 11 from Taylor Mountain, reports three feet of packed snow with drifts six to eight feet high on the face, unlikely to melt for a month. Ten inches of fresh snow fell at Lone Tree and snow more than ten feet deep near Sheep Creek in Daggett County.
