State Fish and Game Men Discuss Basin Projects

State Fish and Game officials and local panel members met at Vernal Rod and Gun Club to outline basin plans. Topics covered included deer range near Taland Park, raising Stewart Lake dike, new duck ponds on Green River refuges, fish stocking at Ashbycee, and bear habitat efforts tied to Upper Colorado and Central Utah projects.

Appointment reshuffles Uintah district staff duties

Dole Wawkins of Kaysville was appointed director of business and auxiliary services in Uintah School District to complete a staff reorganization replacing the former clerk post. Wallace Trottier left Ashley Valley Jr High to join Granite School District. Todd School land beside was leased to Arvene Cooper. Rondle Rogers and B Vero Wilson became school bus drivers. The Highway Patrol inspected 27 buses with no mechanical defects, a district record. Ernest Caldwell will represent the board on the county recreation committee.

Jr Livestock Show to Showcase 100 Exhibitors May 28 29

More than 100 junior exhibitors will display beef sheep dairy and hog animals at Uintah Basin Junior Livestock Show on May 28 and 29 at the fairgrounds. Secretary Wm F Fernsworth notes a horse show and judging at 730 pm on May 20. FFA and 4 H members are grooming and fattening animals as the event nears.

UHS Vernal clubs beautify grounds around building

Uintah High School grounds now show new shrubs as students and clubs contribute. Vocational agriculture led by Doyle Landon coordinated the project with clubs including Current Topics and Progressive Arts supporting. The drive raised 125 dollars for plants plus 25 dollars from the high school. Thelma Wright spearheaded the fundraising drive.

Uintah District Eyes Final Drive for Scout Budget

Uintah District plans a final push to raise 700 of 3856 for the 1956 57 Utah National Parks Council Scout year ending September 30. Scouts sponsor three theatre shows with May 20 to June 4 sales run by 16 troops. Tickets valid at Vogue Theatre May 28 20 31 and June 1 for Pear Strikes Out. Main Theatre June 26 27 for How to Marry a Millionaire and Fire and High Water. Third show July 17 18. prizes include merit badge sets, uniforms, a Silva Compass.

Uintah Basin High Schools Graduation Week Schedule

Uintah Basin high schools plan commencement ceremonies next week with hundreds to receive diplomas. Dr Harvey L. Taylor of Brigham Young University will deliver the baccalaureate address Sunday at 3 pm in the auditorium. The 34th annual commencement occurs Thursday at 2 am and 8 pm for 120 graduates. Performances include orchestral preludes, a mixed quartet, and student speakers. Diplomas are awarded by Ernest Caldwell.

Glines Ward Stages May Variety to Aid Boy Scouts

Glines Ward chapel hosts a Saturday May 25 8 p m benefit variety show to aid Boy Scouts. Produced by George Pitts famed for vocal sound imitations, the program features Uncle Rogee, marimba solo, tenor Tin o Rogiani from the Berlin Opera, songs You Love, operatic gems, a dramatic reading 40 Martyrs 40 Crowns, Ralph Hulbrich national accordion champion, and ventriloquism with Pitts providing sound effects for a tramp sketch.

Uintah High Track Team Places Fourth at State Meet

Uintah High finishes fourth among 24 state schools at the University of Utah state meet. Dean Lundell sets a state record in the 880 yard dash at 1 58 5 and anchors wins in the medley relay with Kehl Behunin Dwight Roberts and Dilly Murray. The mile relay team and 860 relay also place, with several Uintah runners earning top spots.
