Two men plead guilty in Uintah County destruction case
Uintah County Sheriff's release says three men were arrested March 27 for destruction of private property. William Dar Heaps 26 and Dave Brown 20 of Cleveland Utah and Terry Birch 20 of Price were arraigned before Judge Wayne Bullock. Heaps pled not guilty and remains jailed on a $100 bond. Brown and Birch each pled guilty, were fined $50, and ordered to pay $75 restitution. A citizen saw the damage at a Maeser home. vehicle search failed, but the car was later stopped in Roosevelt and its occupants returned to Uintah County.

Boundary Claim Expands Uintah County Oil Shale Lands
Uintah County and Vernal City officials review a 12 page draft agreement with the Ute Tribe to settle boundaries and jurisdiction for the A and O Indian Reservation. The proposal extends to the Colorado line and Wasatch County, including Uintah oil shale lands, and seeks hunting rights and criminal jurisdiction within the extended area. Ratification would need tribal, state, and federal approval with a Salt Lake City meeting planned with Governor Matheson.

Low bid awarded for Flaming Gorge dam intake work
The Bureau of Reclamation approved Osberg Construction Co. of Seattle for a $4,198,000 contract to modify Flaming Gorge Dam power plant intakes. Ten Alarms Reported As Vernal Fire Declarations Rise
Vernal volunteers responded to ten fire alarms from Wednesday to Tuesday as grass and brush fires spread in extremely dry conditions.
