Prowler Caught in Naples Store by Owner
The Naples store thwarted an attempted burglary last Thursday evening when owner Lynn Holmes, living at the rear, heard noises and caught a youth in the store room. The 16 year old Naples boy was identified by footprints and turned over to juvenile authorities. Deputy Carl Staley assisted in the investigation.

Trujillo Gun Mishap Claims Uintah High Custodian
Funeral services set for James Henry Trujillo 50 at the Vernal Third Ward LDS Chapel after a gun accident on his farm near Vernal left him dead. He worked as head custodian at Uintah High School and died when his 30-30 Winchester discharged while crawling through a corral fence. Sheriff Snyder said the weapon was being used to deter dogs and had been left at the corral while he returned to his house.

National Guard Armory Dedicated During Military Ball Saturday
Vernal marked the official opening and dedication of its new National Guard armory during the annual military ball held Saturday March 26. Dignitaries included Mayor Ralph Siddeway Senator B H Stringham Dr T R Seager Vernal Chamber of Commerce president Hugh W Colton and city officials. Miss Kay Jacobe reigned as ball queen and the ceremony capped a 1938 to 1955 armory campaign led by Colton. The building features a 4500 square foot drill hall two classrooms offices lockers showers and a two heating system setup for training and maintenance.

Pacific Northwest Construction plans to begin the Northwest Pipeline natural gas line from San Juan Basin to the Pacific Northwest in Ignacio Colorado on April 1. About 5 000 workers will operate in 29 crews, with offices in Albuquerque as a temporary headquarters. Construction runs at multiple sites including Kemmerer Wyoming and Crescent Junction Utah under R D Ricklettes supervision. Pacific Northwest seeks SEC approval to sell stock to the public and has private loans arranged with Metropolitan Life and Mutual Life for first mortgage bonds and a 4 28 million dollar bank loan through National City Bank and J P Morgan.

Parade and Flights Planned for American Legion Meet in Vernal
An American Legion convention will be held in Vernal June 1 to 4. A giant parade and carnival, memorial services, and Frontier Airlines flights over Echo Park dam site are planned. The event centers on Echo Park and the Upper Colorado River Storage Project with a special map for delegates and tourists. Frontier will offer Echo Park flights on June 4 for members and the public on Sunday.
