Carter Abandons Second Wildcat Near Vernal

Carter Oil Company this week announced abandonment of its Esther S No 1 wildcat located nine miles northwest of Vernal in Lapoint township Utah. The hole reached a depth of about 1,000 feet and was spurred in last December. This marks the second wildcat abandoned in the Lapoint area, following the Edna Davis No 1 near Vernal. Nearby, Uintah County records note others, including the Kiudson well and Ruth Nelson No 1 near Vernal. Dorothy Fits Siddoway, daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond Siddoway, plans to visit fiancé David Anderson in Glendive Montana with his sister Joanne Anderson and Jed Steffenson, who will return to his home in Helena Montana.

Local Uintah County Dairies Win State Dairy Contest

Calder's and Piedmont dairies from Uintah County won first place at the Utah State Agricultural College Extension Service Dairy Manfacturers Short Course and Paints Show. Calder's scored 84 in homogenized milk while Piedmont achieved 93.7 in pasteurized milk. Samples were tested for bacterial content and butter fat. market samples were used without owner knowledge. Ninety percent of dairies recognized held certificates. This marks Uintah County’s first top honors in the contest.

Hot Water Heater Causes Fire at Uintah Bank Building

A hot water heater exploded in the basement under the directors' room causing about 1500 in damage. Heavy smoke forced occupants to flee as firefighters cut a large hole in the floor to run hoses. Stewart Ashton left for Denver on Monday to join Navy Reserve training.

Sundquist Named Uintah County Republican Chairman

Eugene Sundquist a Uintah County assessor and World War II veteran was elected chairman of the Uintah County Republican Central Committee at a reorganiz ation convention in the county courthouse. He succeeds Henry B. Milecam after a decade in the post. The meeting drew a capacity crowd with state leaders including Vernon Romney and Senators Clegg and Day. The convention named Cotton as temporary chairman and elected Sundquist as chairman with Mrs. eaten Rotten as vice-chairman and Ianis Samwela as treasurer. Further committees and officers were named as the party reorganized.
