A human skeleton was found by Pon Jackson and companions about 16 miles east of Vernal near the Tetournette range quarry. The body belonged to a stranger who likely died after a fall in a crevice, with H. M. Snyder and county officials taking charge of the investigation.
Ute Uintah Stake Board of Education approved a list of Vernal Seminary graduates for May 3 at the lake Lebernacle. The ceremony will be held in the tabernacle. Names include Ardith Bowden, Siva Calcoolley, Dallas Workman, LaVern cock, Glen Calder, Betty Curis, Grace Goodrich, Venus Good s, Barbara Eplb, Lloyd Lyers, Nelson Merkley, Eda Nickell, Vir as Petterton, Barnar Roper, Catherine Siddeway, Leah Imper ernie Bnow, Hope Sweatfield, Male Thacker, Jen nis Weeks, Wel Wilkins. Certificates will be issued upon completion of the pretest course by May 4. Special recognition were given to those completing three majors in Eki and Church Fils tament, a year of New Tetta nk, and a year of church history.
Dinah County approves a road program costing 29177 dollars funded by Ulnton County and an $800000 auto lease fee. Leon P. Chirigtensen drafts the plan with C. J. Stringham presiding. Funds for license and state road, 17000 for new road construction and bridges, 38009 for machinery and repairs, plus 42 maintenance items for routes are allocated. Vernon City clerk Noel is listed.
Monday 3000 Uintah County students will start at 8:00 am and end at 2:30 pm to free time for farm help amid labor shortages from WWII. The plan shortens high school periods to fifty minutes with a half hour noon break and reduces elementary schedules to dismiss at 2:30. Schools close May 16.

Ute leaders announce the Bear Dance will start April 7 at Ouray and run through Sunday April 12. Dancers perform in a large circular formation with drums, drawing large crowds of paleface spectators each year despite the late spring setting at Sotar.
Francis Feltch nominated president of the Vernal Lions Club at a luncheon at the Drill Cafe on Wednesday evening. Also nominated were Ralph Biddeway Dr F P G Exkelson and M Lundell as vice presidents, DL R Barr secretary, George Roth and Karl J Engar named directors, with Robert Livsey and Henry Schaefermeyer continuing as holdover directors.
Uintah principals joined a Utah statewide administrators conference in Salt Lake City held Friday and Saturday. Seven representatives from Vernal and Held attended to discuss the role of schools in national defense and plans to shorten school hours to mobilize students for defense work. Attendees included Vernal Stagg Central principal Thomas E Caldwell Maeser principal Frank Patten and FE Du.
Arthur Massey about 60, a Colorado native, will accept no compensation for his services as mountain weather observer for the U S in Utah. The weather department notes Massey’s sacrifice as the war nears completion and promises future remarks once details are finalized. The report underscores Massey’s wartime contribution and his personal gesture of unpaid service.
In a crowded arena 2000 fans cheered as Utah's Davis defeated rivals to capture the third state championship. Murray posted 37 points in a strong showing while Carbon forward Ede Berry scored 22 with 3 of 7 from the line. Funeral services for Mrs Corn Harmon Mullins were held at Roosevelt with Bishop Horace J. Richie officiating. Interment followed at Roosevelt Cemetery. Surviving family includes four children, 23 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Maw and Japanese American Citizens League leaders that the county could accept about 2000 Japanese evacuees on a voluntary basis in a Pleasant Valley area near Myton Utah. The plan envisions small communities and farm support, with federal supervision and transportation concerns noted.
Joe Postina and Taft Mc Naughton recount tracking a formidable mountain lion in Utah’s Antin County from Bweekwater Ranch to Tom Patterson canyon. After a long chase, the lion leaped a tree and fought dogs before being killed. the animal weighed over 200 pounds with a 13 inch forearm and notable scars.

In Chicago on March 23 the Office of Price Administration announced sugar rationing will begin. Sugar stocks will be frozen as of April 28 and no sales to consumers will be allowed without a ration book. Individual consumers cannot use their ration books until after May 5. Commercial registrants must register April 28 and 29, and retail concerns April 4 to 7 in Uintah County.
