Logan reports Dr. W E Carroll professor of animal husbandry at the University of Duunois has been appointed dean of the U S A C school of agriculture. He will begin July 1, succeeding Dean E J Maynard who resigned to enter private business in animal husbandry. Born in Garderville Utah Carroll is praised for his plan to focus on livestock industry needs in Utah. His thirteen years at Timnois add to his national reputation as an authority in animal husbandry.

Rock Asphalt and Soil Conservation Discussed by Lions

Funeral Services At First Ward For Orin Fisher
Funeral services for Orin Fisher 41 died at home of his brother at 2 am March 29 were held at Vernal First Ward chapel. Speakers were friends John and Johnson with Bishop Pontha Calder conducting. Burial in Fairfield cemetery. Survivors include mother and five sisters and four brothers with several relatives listed. Fisher born April 25 1905 son of Moroni and Mary Peterson. divorced from May Bascom.

Salt Lake American Revolution medal will go to the winner with judges from that organization. A representative from each school will compete for Uintah High School's trophy on Saturday May 29. The Junior Chamber of Commerce plans a memorial at Dinosaur National Monument for the father and sister of the late Dr Earl Douglass. Last year hundreds attended the graveside exercises. this year two speakers of note from the Sons of the American Revolution are expected and five high school representatives will join a patriotic event the evening before. Hallinger shines at State AAU boxing meet in Salt Lake
Vernal boxers performed well at the State AAU meet in Salt Lake City. Don Olson and Hollis Hullinger advanced to the semi finals after tough rounds while Jack Powell and Gus Clark raced to early exits. Clair Fletcher led the Junior Chamber team. Bell and Olson were eliminated in the semis. Hullinger won a hard fought senior welterweight bout before Jensen edged him in a dramatic five round scrap.

Vernal Asphalt Plant to Resume Hiring on April First
The Vernal Asphalt Plant will resume operations and employ a crew of sixty men starting April 1. D P Maher, superintendent, says preference will go to workers who remained on the payroll last winter and have not since found other work. If the full crew is ready, sixty men will be hired, with those eligible urged to contact Maher before April 1. The project, tied to Utah Basin rock asphalt and the State highway commission’s reorganization, will continue through most of the year on the road from Fort Duchesne to Roosevelt and toward Fruitland, with initial stockpiles in place and preliminary work underway on the roadbed. The existing run covers the contract between Fort Duchesne and Roosevelt, involving subsequent oiling from the current end to Fruitland. Heavy snowfall previously halted progress, but grading and paving work resumed after the winter.

CCC Truck Overturns On Dangerous Curve Injuring Six
A grazing department truck veered off the road at J. H. Reader corner and overturned Monday evening. It carried Vernal CCC camp enrollees. six were injured with bruises and sprains. Wooley Stotth and Gerald Hanes had the most serious injuries. four groups could not work the next day.

Vernal Sheep Case Upheld by Supreme Court
The Utah State Supreme Court sustained the verdict against John E McNaughtan for altering marks and brands on sheep with intent to steal. The rehearing affirmed the jury’s finding that the six Siddoway sheep belonged to the Siddoways and that the defendant branded or altered them to steal. The opinion notes ample evidence the sheep were Siddoway stock and that the defendant claimed and loaded them into his trailer.
