Uintah County Receives 15218 Oil Royalties

Uintah County led 23 counties in the 10 percent share of federal mineral bonuses for the last half of 105 with a payment of 15218 dollars sent Friday by the State Finance Commission. San Juan County followed with 9615 dollars. other large sums went to Emery 7948, Grand 6283, Carbon 3556, Duchesne 4895, and Millard 2075. The remaining 563414 goes to the minimum school fund. By law, counties receive a tenth of the federal mineral lease revenues for road building from within their boundaries.

Last Rites Held for Addie Aycock in Vernal Memorial Park

Funeral services for Addie M S Aycock were held in Vernal Third Ward with Bishop C Laurence Fox directing and several speakers including J Wallace Johnson Pres Jesse A Hog and Pres Archie Johnson. Survivors include husband Vernal four sons three daughters and 25 grandchildren. Burial followed at Vernal Memorial Park with pallbearers the four Aycock sons and two grandsons.

Funeral Services Held for John A Walkup

Funeral services were held Monday in Vernal for John A Walkup who was killed in an accident at Red Washfield last week. The service, directed by Virgil Robb, included prayers by Elbert Smith and Breyer, with speeches by Bishop Gilbert Ellingford and President Jesse A Haws. A duet Going Home and a quartet sang Beyond the Sunset as Evelyn Richardson read, followed by The Old Rugged Cross. Burial at Vernal Memorial Park featured a graveside by June Hacking and the American Legion Witbeck Post No 11. Pallbearers were Peter Moore Vern Moore Garth Atwood Larvin Atwood Ivan Slough and Dale Slaugh. Walkup, son of George and Pearl Slough Walkup of Whiterocks, was a 1939 to 1945 US Air Force mechanic in Alaska and theaters in Africa Europe and the Pacific. He was a B-29 crew member and Alitsh High School graduate.

Deer Loss Predicted In Uintah Herds

Game wardens and Forest Service officers warn many fawns and young deer in the Uintah foothills are dying from hunger and weakness in a severe winter. Observers report elk and adult deer in poor condition, huddled in cedars. predators may worsen losses. Officials note snow depth blocks ground forage and an annual air survey will better estimate herd losses.

University Symphonic Band To Appear In Vernal

The University of Utah symphonic band directed by Ronald Greg will perform at Uintah High School on April 11 and a matinee at the Vernal Stake Center, with an evening concert at the Uintah Stake I. A Lions Club sponsored series features student musicians from the University and Intermountain Area notes of the band’s rise in demand.

Lapoint Crude Oil To Be Refined In Salt Lake

A contract was signed last week between Gulf, Oil and Refining Company and Utah OM Refining Co of Salt Lake City for the sale of crude oil from the Whitlock No 1 near Lapoint in 9261 ft. The operation cost over $25,000 as drilling fluid was reworked while waiting for cement to set, indicating continued efforts to seal a production in the Green River formation.

First Wool School Completed Sports Shop And Rangely Win Tournament Opener

An exciting fast round robin basketball tournament opened Wednesday in Uintah High School gym sponsored by Vernal Jaycees. The opening game saw Sport Shop teams win 46 to 58 in an overtime thriller between Uintah High School faculty Rangely A. Continental Oil defeated Rangely B 28 to 28, Roosevelt Legion crushed Town Burns 53 to 22. Second night eliminations were set for Thursday with winners and losers meeting for a second contest and final rounds Friday at 7:00 p.m. Referees were Darrel Wardell Ken Sowards Ralph Ashton and Nick Barovich.

Famous Explorer to Address Dinner Club Saturday

Noted world traveler I. D. Richardson will speak at the Knife and Fork dinner club March meeting at Hotel Vernal. He has visited 45 foreign countries in six years and explored jungle regions unseen by white men. He wrote American Guerilla in the Philippines and They Were Expendable, and worked as technical director for 20th Century Film Corporation and MGM on two war films.

Kiwanis hear rodeo plans for 1952 event

Kiwanis members hear detailed plans for the 1952 rodeo to be held June 26 to 28 at asphalted parking grounds. Indian Land Lease Sought by Oil Co

Phillips Petroleum is rumored to seek oil and gas leasing on about 14 000 acres in Uintah and Ouray lands west of Roosevelt Utah. The Uintah and Ouray Agency at Fort Duchesne has not announced bids yet as two weeks of activity unfold.

An Uintah County Red Cross appeal launches this week led by Vernon Nash and Mrs Forrest R Stone. Quotas set to fund local and national war relief, with at least one dollar from each family and higher gifts up to ten dollars.
