Vernal IOOF team, sponsored by Vernal lodge, played two tough games in Utah tournament at Helper last weekend. They lost to Fisher Beer quhit by 1 point after being led by Bingham and King with 6 and 7 points, then fell 42 to 61 to Telluride Mate with Siddway and Hart scoring top for Vernal.
Sunday’s trap team slate featured Heber as the opponent with three matches decided in favor of the visiting squad. Individual shooters like Lambert and Jorgensen contributed key scores as the meet progressed, though exact results and team lineups are obscured by garbled OCR.
State Road commission chairman says US 40 will be completed to the Colorado line by year end if plans hold. The Vernal CCC camp will mark its fifth anniversary with a 1 PM program at the camp on Sunday April 3 featuring a Uintah High School band contest, followed by an inspection of projects and a luncheon. Lions Club and Chamber members oversee transport with volunteers aiding private cars. public invited to attend and join as guests for the day.
Residents of Ward celebrate a charity event raising about $400 to fund a new Ashley Ward Chapel after the previous one was destroyed by fire in January 1937. A community dinner at the house fed 400, a matinee at Vogue and roller skating at Imperial drew large crowds. Plans call for a larger chapel costing $17 160 with work expected to start this spring.
Washington reports the Commodity Credit Corporation will extend loans to western wool growers at 18 to 19 cents per pound under the 1938 farm bill. The plan aims to stabilize prices, support 58,000 producers, and keep wool from collapsing further, with Ogden and Denver named as key storage points.
The annual high school operetta Oh Doctor will be presented Friday and Saturday at the auditorium with junior high and elementary shows at 2 pm Friday. Under the direction of the Junior Chamber of Commerce with Vernal City Council and County Commission cooperation a clean up and paint up campaign will be inaugurated. Business houses in Vernal will be solicited to redecorate fronts and residents urged to clean up repair fences paint houses plant trees shrubs and flowers. The campaign will likely begin the second week in April according to the committee in charge which includes Bus Richardson chairman J B Nethelsel ard Laurent Pox.
The University of Utah hosts a major dinosaur exhibit drawing thousands. Fossils include a full grown horse, a mammoth, a large carnivorous dinosaur, and the most complete skeleton of an ancient reptile found near Provo and Salt Lake City, with parts uncovered along a state highway north of Provo.
