LDS Authority To Speak at Conference

Abegglens Buy Big Vernal Laundromat

Mr and Mrs Lewis Abegglen purchased Toll Day Laundromat in Vernal from Floyd Moyden of Rangely Coto. He has run Vernal Shoe Store 16 years, and the couple, lifelong Vernal residents, have four children. The new laundromat is rated the largest of its kind in Utah.

Steamboat Man Returned On Check Charge

Sheriff Bob Gadd of Craft Colorado arrested Raymond Douglas Paton 23 in Steamboat Springs on an insufficient funds check charge after Vernal City Marshal Pete Moore spotted his valid car status and a sawed off shotgun during a routine check.

Bantam playoff set here Saturday in Vernal armory

The Bantam Basketball regional playoff for a state berth will be held Saturday at noon in the Vernal National Guard armory. The Knots, led by Ace Johnston and Max Woolley, won the Vernal league and will face a Murray team, with the winner advancing to Salt Lake City for the March 15 state tournament.

The Utes had already clinched the division title and a State Class B berth by beating Union last week. The highway patrol investigation noted Patton had bought several guns in Colorado with an insufficient funds check.

Park Commission May Build 36000 Fieldhouse Extension

Vernal Chamber of Commerce heard the Park Commission may fund the full 36000 cinder block addition to Vernal Museum to house a mineral collection as part of a 250900 endowment from the Dutany Munter Foundation. Local groups have donated 84071 toward the project and the commission has raised its share to 25000, with possible full funding. Uintah Basin Science Fair Set For March 14 16

Uintah High School hosts the Uintah Basin Science Fair March 14 to 16 under the Science Club. Elementary students enter three projects each. juniors and seniors may participate. Top biology and physics projects win $50 bonds. junior and high school winners in each division receive $29 bonds. Local civic groups fund the prizes. Lions Club Vernal donates $50, Dental Association contributes $5 for dentistry. Rotary covers major costs and provides judges. Public viewing Friday 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm, then 6 pm to 6 pm. awards at 6:00 with Rotary oversight.

Steinaker Canal Project Visited by Reclamation Officials

Reclamation officials from Salt Lake City, Denver, and Spanish Fork inspected the Steinaker Reservoir project and its feeder canal in a Monday visit. The canal currently carries about 18 second feet, with the reservoir holding 1800 acre feet of water. Seepage caused foundation slippage near Drop No 18, prompting removal and replacement materials under J. E. Neill’s supervision. When full, the feeder canal will carry 400 second feet, with May or June typically bringing peak flows to the Central, Upper, High Lide, and other canals to prevent creek and Green River inflow.

Turner Building Low Bidder on County Culverts

Turner Building Supply won the culverts contract with 334.04 dollars as Uintah County Commissioners opened bids during the weekly meeting. Lloyd Enton and Lorin Merriley urged renovations to the rodeo arena area, and a future meeting was planned. John W. New, contractor for a trailer court in Naples, spoke on sewage disposal questions.
