Central Utah Project Seen Farm Industry Key

The Central Utah project part of the Upper Colorado Storage plan offers immediate and long term benefits for Uintah Basin. Cheap power may attract new industries while irrigation and culinary water expand. Steinaker reservoir will support about 25 000 acres and Vernal water supply. Recreation areas and boating facilities are planned with Flaming Gorge and other sites.

Millecam Elected President of Utah Motel Association

Henry B Millecam Sr operator of Motel 40 in Vernal was chosen president at the Utah Motel Association annual convention held Friday and Saturday at the Salt Lake Hotel. Royal Henderson of Dinosaur Motor Lodge was elected secretary treasurer. Millecam called the event the best convention yet with about 250 attending the presidents banquet.

Jensen-Dinosaur Road to Start May 1 Says

County commissioners discuss water drainage on Vernal-Lapoint road and plan metal culverts. A two mile Jensen to Dinosaur National Monument road section will start May first after state aid and right of way secured. Concrete dips at washes and guard rails will be installed to protect against flash floods. Arrica and Dinosaur officials coordinate on shop construction.

Bank of Vernal Officials Say No Merger Plans

Bank of Vernal officials led by N. J. Meagher Jr. stated on Tuesday that officers are not negotiating to merge or sell to any bank. The bank reported a $450 000 deposit increase in the 53rd anniversary year with capital now exceeding $250 000, and a 2 percent interest payout to depositors.

February bounty tops 64 bobcats in local report

County bounty committee reports a record February take of 64 bobcats, led by Vern Richens 21, Alfred Kidd 15, Ralph Allred 12, Gordon Smith 8, W A Banks shepherder 7, Gary Anderson 1. Bounty paid 4 dollars per foot and scalp, 3 dollars per hide. Banks added 5 dollars per bobcat. Anderson killed his own cat while rabbit hunting. Committee members are W A Banks, John Bennion, Clutch McCoy and Harold Davis.

Carter Oil Announces Wildcat Near Whiterocks

Carter Oil Co telegram to Vernal Express says a second wildcat test will be drilled on its Whiterocks prospect in Uintah County Utah. The new well is about 134 miles southwest of the first test abandoned at 4078 feet and located in Section II 1E NE SW NE with a planned depth near 9 000 feet in the Mancos shale region northwest of Vernal about 20 miles.

High Winds Fuel Trash Fire Across Sherman Home

High winds Monday spread a trash fire near the Sherman Workman home at 356 East 1st North, prompting a call to the fire department at 3 50 in the afternoon. Firefighters prevented sparks from spreading and urged residents not to burn trash in windy weather.

Clyde S Johnson was elected chairman of the county Democratic party at the red courtroom Saturday evening. Graveside Rites Held for Infant Carolyn Murray

Graveside services for Carolyn Murray infant daughter of Ray and Norma Eaton Murray were held Wednesday at Vernal Memorial Park. The child died at birth in the local hospital. Survivors include the parents two brothers four grandparents and relatives.

Graveside services were held at Vernal Memorial Park for Tosan na Anderson infant daughter of James L. and Ruby Kloep pel Anderton. The child died at birth in Uintah County hospital.
