Alice Haslem Dies in Uintah County Hospital
Mrs. Alice Haslem 81 longtime Ashley Valley resident died Wednesday morning at Uintah County Hospital from causes of old age. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 pm at Maeser Chapel directed by Bishop Harvey McKee. Born April 13, 1870 in Morgan Utah she married Joshua Haslem in Logan Temple. The Haslems lived in Vernal American Fork Bennett and Uintah County before returning to the area.

Officers Find Body of Baby at City Dump
Uintah County officers investigated a grim case after a newborn baby boy, full term and about seven pounds, was found wrapped in partially burned paper at the Vernal City Dump. The body, discovered near the west end, was autopsied by the county physician who noted no decomposition and possible weeks of exposure. Sheriff Herb M. Snyder and County Attorney Whitney D. Hammond continued inquiries into motives behind the abandoned infant.

Two Oil Strikes Reported in the Uintah Basin
Gulf Oil Corp reports two new oil discoveries in the Uintah Basin within the past week. The Lynn H Whitlock wildcat near Lapoint flowed oil gas and water during testing, with an estimated output near 20 barrels per hour initially. The Lynn H Whitlock well showed a strong oil show with potential to grow after deeper casing and completion.

Dahlia Trujillo born January 16 1888 in Taos New Mexico lived in Vernal since 1904 where her home on Vernal Avenue served as a boarding house for migratory Mexican workers. Active in St James Catholic Church she is survived by sisters Lucy Balero Lizzie Hierra Dan Lopez brothers Paul and Adan Arerra and nephews Joe Francis Trujillo Albert and Daniel Lopez. Rosary was said at Vernal Mortuary and high Requiem Mass at St James Church with burial at Vernal Memorial Park.

County commissioners Joseph Merkley Don Batty and LaRue Fickup studied a proposed bridge site in Iburr Wash Wednesday after residents east of Green River urged action. Led by spokesman Robert Thorne the group pressed for 50 percent local labor donation with the rest by the county.
