City Agrees To Furnish Fire Protection To County

Uintah County commissioners and Vernal City Council approved an agreement for Vernal to furnish county wide fire protection. The county will pay 100 dollars monthly for service and each property owner charged 18 dollars. The county department will respond to all fires including Ashley Valley Jensen area, and county schools churches and commercial buildings. Vernal has two engines and crews. city manager LeRoy Taylor urged citizen cooperation and traffic clearance for emergency vehicles.

Funeral Rites Monday for Henry Herriott

Funeral services were held at Kingsbury Congregational Church for Henry Herriott 83 who died Saturday morning. He was a charter member of the LOOF lodge and survived by his widow, two daughters and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were under the Vernal Memorial Cemetery unit with pallbearers from the lodge.

Dairy Cooperatives Meet With Dairy Group Plans

Uintah County hosts three meetings next Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the Dairy Cooperative Association led by Eldon Tillings, with Utah Council of Farmer Cooperatives speaker Carpenter. Hugh W. Cotton notes funds for a children’s ward at the new Uintah County Hospital in Vernal. Over 150 Uintah County dairymen have joined. March 15 starts construction. $10 membership for new members beginning March 1.

Harold Lundell Returns From Atlantic City

Harold M Tamdens, superintendent of Vernal City School District, traveled from Vernal to Atlantic City New Jersey for the annual convention of the American Association of School Administrators. En route he visited Washington and lawmakers Granger and Watkins who discussed federal education aid and the Marshall Plan context. General Omar Bradley and Oscar R Ewing were among the convention speakers, focusing on national security and education as an investment.

Funeral Rites Held Friday For John Bascom

Funeral services for Ji Wolson Bascom 78 who died February 21 at his home were held Friday under Bishop J Rose Merrell of Naples Ward. Speakers included Joseph Collier High Councilman Harold Hullinger and President Byron P Goodrich with musical numbers by a quartet and Orlo Goodrich. Burial was in Vernal Memorial Gemstar. Bascom was born April 10 1880 at Mona and lived in Vernal Raymond Ashley Valley Naples Ward and Vernal. He is survived by four sons Earl Weldon and Frank and a daughter Mona James and an adopted sister Nellie Stanley.
