Black Walnut Memorials Proposed by USDA
The United States Department of Agriculture recommends planting black walnut trees as memorials to soldiers. It notes the tree’s WWII contributions including wood for gunstocks and airplane propellers, nutshell carbon for gas masks, and kernels used in delicacies for the trenches.
