Hollandsworth and Travis Drilling Co of Longview Texas said they plan to bring in Ashley Valley's third oil well by Sunday at about 4130 feet after setting pipe. Top of the Weber formation reached at 4067 feet with optimistic notes on potential. A second well location will be chosen early next week while other local wells progress with depths around 3870 to 4150 feet and coring planned soon.

Ouray Resident Parley Miller Dies of Heart Ailment
Funeral services for Parley Miller age 60, Ouray farmer, were held in the Leota ward chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after his death Saturday from a heart ailment. Born January 23, 1889 in Kanosh Millard County, he was a son of William and Martha Miller. He wed Angie Blackburn in 1919 in the Manti temple, later marrying Nora Rodeback on August 6, 1922 in Salt Lake City. Surviving are his widow, his father in Idaho Falls, two sons Clell Miller of Leota and Clyde Miller of Duchesne, two brothers William and Perry Miller of Twin Falls, a sister Mrs Laura Fuller of Mountain View California, seven grandchildren and several half siblings.

Services to Be Held For Alton Pickup of Randlett
Funeral services for Alton Pickup, 82, of Randlett, who died Sunday at Roosevelt hospital after a long illness, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Roosevelt stake chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Bishop Merriner McMullin of the Randlett ward will officiate. Pickup, a farmer and stock raiser, was born in Provo and married Ada Bell Weight in Vernal. He lived in Bennett for 10 years while with the bureau of reclamation, later ran a stock ranch at Neola before moving to Readlett in 1934. An active LDS member, he served in the bishopric and was a high priest. He aided Boy Scouts and community work. Survived by his widow and five sons LaRue Wayne Grant George Quint Pickup of Randlett, two daughters Leah Mase Pickup and Thora O’Neil of Randlett, a brother Ray Pickup of Provo, two sisters, Pennie Richens and Bella Feldstead, and 10 grandchildren.
