Disarmed man treated after family disturbance at Lazy River Trading Post
Charles Allred phoned Uintah County Sheriff's office when Mrs Matney and her two children reported Bascom Matney's violent mental relapse. Deputies disarmed him of a loaded .22 pistol, he received emergency care at Uintah County hospital, then was taken to a Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake City for recuperation. His family stayed in Salt Lake City for safety.

Crash causes $3100 in damages west of Dutch John
A two vehicle crash eight miles south of Dutch John on June 24 resulted in $3100 total damages. A 1977 Chevrolet pickup owned by Vernal Fur and Hide Co. rear ended a recreation vehicle driven by Rex McClellan with three family members aboard. The Vernal vehicle sustained $1100 damage, the RV and occupants $2000, and no injuries were reported. Montgomery, the 18 year old driver, was cited for following too closely.

Rancher Escapes Death in Tractor Accident
Edward Jenkins of 878 North 3000 West was injured when his pant leg was caught in a tractor’s power take-off as he baled hay. He suffered a diagonal rib fracture and a punctured lung but refused to quit, returning to work after hospitalization. His wife Thelma and son-in-law Carl Bowthorpe assisted, with Carl continuing chores during Ed’s convalescence.
