Funeral Services For Civil War Veteran Wm J Halladay
Impressive rites held at the First Ward Chapel on June 19 with Bishop James II Wallis presiding. Speakers FJ N Davis and Ernest Eaton praised Halladay, and Taps were played by Geo W Cahoon of the American Legion. Halladay, born September 17 1840 in Alabama, served four years in the Civil War and later moved to Utah. He married Josephine Holiday October 24 1867 and is survived by two daughters in Salt Lake City.

Arrest of Irvin Doss in Craig Colo Bound Over in Vernal
Irvin Doss was arrested by Colorado authorities in Craig last week and brought to Vernal for trial before Justice L. C Thorne. He was bound over to the district court with bonds set at 2000 and remains jailed until bonds are posted. The charge is bastard. Doss, a former Vernal resident, has been near Ladore Colorado, firing near a ranch and allegedly harassing his father.

Mr and Mrs Hyrum B Calder and daughter Vers returned from a California visit with their son Hamilton who graduated from Leland Stanford University this spring with a Master of Business Administration. The group toured the Challenge Butter Cream plant in Los Angeles handling over two million pounds monthly. Their coast to coast trip covered more than three thousand miles.

Leslie Ashton occupies a new building beside the ward house to run his wagon and MAC business until the Coon department building is finished. Vernal and Burmard baseball played on the park campus with a 22 to 25 score in Vernal’s favor. The county school superintendent has secured Doctors Talmage and Tanner as teachers institute conductors this season. Joseph Rich’s front is being rebuilt with chipped brick by Robert and John Liddard. William Wimmer and wife visited to arrange sale and rental of a house and lot to Stephen Beck for summer. Uncle Jerry Murray presented lus-tous cherries, claiming superior fruit. band concerts drew crowds to the church yard. Milton Lyon returned with nine bear skins from the hills, including a large grizzly. A baby girl was born June 2 to Ed Colton’s wife, and both mother and child are thriving.
