Floor of City Reservoir Completed in 24 Hours
The Vernal City water system completes a 500000 gallon reinforced cement reservoir in 24 hours under chairman Frances Felich. Hatch heads construction and engineer Tate Richardson oversees. a 60 day completion is expected for the circular 10 inch thick walls. The new reservoir stores 550000 gallons for a 48 hour town supply and will provide pure cool water drawn from mountain springs.

County Secures Funds For Uintah County Roads
Uintah County officials led by Board of County Commissioners and Henry Slaugh secure state funds for farm to market roads. The group returned from Salt Lake after a meeting and plan a Friday session with the county surveyor to outline tentative road plans and adopt a definite improvement program. The Jensen Victory Service Organization led by Mrs. Ella Moon plans a July Fourth event at Jensen to raise funds for the USO. A recent show netted $2215, with more expected. Activities include a daylight salute at sunrise, a patriotic parade at 10:39, floats and VS O members on decorated bicycles, a program at the school ground, a community picnic, evening performances, two one act plays, a dance, and War Stamps and bonds sales.

Ashley Creek Kiddies Pool Built by Verical Tawns Club
The Verical Tawns Club sponsors a small pool on Ashley Creek at the Alma Preece farm two miles northwest of town. Thomas Karren oversees the project, predicting a 50 foot long pond with a shallow lower end. A bulldozer scooped a creek bed, cobbles form the lower end, then shale and clay will hold water. The pool will not be a formal bath but will have a continuous flow of water and supervision plans to ensure safe swimming.

Blood Booster of Basin Dies and Funeral Held
Henry H Blood 69 former Utah governor and California mission president of the LDS Church died at 10 19 a m Friday June 19 after a period of illness. Funeral services were held at 2 60 p m Monday in the Haysville LDS tabernacle. Blood known for road funding efforts and his push for a paved highway through Uintah Basin, attended UBIC conventions, and remained a loved figure among Basin residents. He was born October 1 1872 in Kaysville Utah, son of William and Jane Blood, and served as Utah governor from 1982 until 1940 before his church appointment.

Scrap Rubber Drive Tops Uintah County Efforts
Uintah County tops its 80 000 pound scrap rubber quota with 25 000 pounds stored at Cortoco warehouse and reports from Conoco and other oil firms pushing total toward 90 000 pounds. Service stations serve as drop points as roadways are combed and remote areas expect yields. Boy Scouts and others assist in gathering scrap rubber across the county as the drive continues.

Stanford Graduate Enlists in Air Corps
Stewart Ashton, a June graduate of Leland Stanford University with an economics major, has enlisted in the Air Corps. Sugar rationing in Uintah county caused confusion when the State Rationing board announced 18 pounds per person for canning, instead of the prior expected amount. Registrations began last week with five pounds per person and a promise of more later, but the new 18 pound allotment affects those already issued smaller certificates. Families may receive new certificates to cover the difference, with no new application needed in most cases. some wards will adjust at registration to reach 18 pounds per person per family member.

Sugar stamp No 4 expires this Saturday mid month and will become worthless after. Stamp No 5 will be accepted for two pounds of sugar starting Sunday with a roll ending at midnight July 25. Purchasers gain two pounds in place of one while stamps 1 to 4 keep a half pound weekly ration. Stamp No 6 will be good for two pounds from July 26 to August 22.
