Planning for fall pullets from New Jersey college guidance
Extension poultry expert W Hi Allen advises poultrymen to plan next fall’s pullets now. Counting five eggs per pullet, assuming 50 percent hatch and equal cockerel yield, requires four eggs per pullet hatched and a 10–20 percent rearing mortality. For geese, staggered laying and hatching may apply, and baby chicks grow fast on a mash of two parts cornmeal one part middlings and one part bran with skim milk or water.
