Docking a Boat: Tips From Mercury Experts
Docking a boat is easier than parking a car as natural forces aid positioning. Approach against the strongest force, whether wind or current, bow toward the dock. Move to reverse to stop and secure the bow line while the stern swings in for aft tie. With wind ahead, approach head on and halt a few feet out. Secure the bow, then power the stern. When wind is behind, come parallel to the dock and drift into place, securing the stern line first to let the wind push the bow into place.
