Lapoint Man Files for Commissioner

Orville Swain files for the two year county commissioner seat on the Republican ticket per County Clerk Charles T. Pope. Swain is the only candidate. In the Sept 9 primary, a two year and four year commissioner seats are up with wd and LaBye- Bae terms ending this year, while Chairman Joseph Merkley is the holdover commissioner. A Uintah and Duchesne state senator seat and a Uintah county representative seat are also on the ballot. Dr. F G Estelson announces intent to run for the state senate.

New Carter Oil Well Produces 1728 Barrels Daily

Tulsa dispatch reports Carter Oil Co announces a Uintah Basin Utah well tests at 1728 barrels per day. No. 2 Ute in Uintah County yielded 432 barrels in eight hours after drilling to 11317 feet and caving back to 7661. Joint venture of Carter, Standard Oil Co of New Jersey and Continental Oil Co. production from upper Wasatch formation.

Saddle Tree Firm Enlarges Vernal Plant

Saddle Tree Company of Vernal enlarges its Vernal plant adding a 10 by 30 room to expand operations and create two storage spaces. Owners Laurence Fox Raymane White and Kenneth Hadley state production of saddle trees and cinches ships nationwide. The firm, operating at the current site for three years, now employs 18 people. Construction began this week and should finish around July 1.

Two Children Die In Trailer Fire Near Lapoint Utah

Car al Emma Christensen age four and her brother Clarence Timothy Colistensen age two died Monday afternoon in a trailer fire behind the Christensen home in Lapoint. Neighbors unable to rescue them. the blaze started in the trailer used as a playhouse and what storage inflammables were kept there. Mrs. Christensen and family survivors listed. funeral announced for Thursday at 2 p.m. in Lapoint Ward Chapel with burial at Farm Creek Cemetery.

Auto Injuries Fatal to Bruce Hadlock

Bruce Hadlock 9 of Vernal died Monday night from head injuries after being struck by a car on Highway 121 near Vernal while fishing on a bridge. The car, driven by Robert Litster of Naples, left the road and rolled after impact. Litster was uninjured. The boy, son of Kenneth and Sarah Velda Hadlock, was buried at Vernal Memorial Park after services in the Second Ward Chapel. He had completed the fifth grade at Central Elementary School. He is survived by two brothers Lonney and Brett, sister Kenna Lee, and three grandparents. Burial followed funeral services led by Bishop Harold E Hullinger.

Auto Bicycle Collision Injures Youth

Eleven year old Jack Cutright was struck by an automobile while riding his bicycle last Saturday. He was released from Cantal County hospital and was reported as doing fine. The Merne boy swerved into the path of a vehicle driven by Lora Reno, Nevada, at 8 30 a m about one half mile west of Vernal on US Highway 40. Officer Glen McKenney said the driver was traveling slowly when the collision occurred. Citations were issued.

Former Vernal Resident Ernest Case Dies in California

Ernest Case, a former Vernal resident, died Monday in Ivanhoe California after a prolonged heart illness. Husband of Nellie Thompson, he leaves eight children and was born March 4 1900 in Vernal where he lived most of his life. Surviving siblings include G A Case Ralph Case Sol Case and Garret Case plus Mrs Paul Watkins of Vernal and Mrs Erle Stewart and Eldon Case of Reno Nevada and Mrs Roy Ellitriz of Pueblo Colorado.

Historic Vernal Rodeo Parade Opens Summer Event

The annual Vernal Rodeo kicks off with a grand street parade on June 26 and 27, featuring cowboy acts, clowns, and bucking broncs. Gene Autry’s brother Doug Autry and Barbara will present singing and rope spinning, while Saterfield and two clowns perform jokes and tricks. Special races and Indian pony displays join the main rodeo program under Rod o President Wiley Baucum, with nightly dances at Imperial Hall and attendees Gwen Wooley and Bet Atwood as part of the entertainment team.

Kids Get Break With Best Fishing on Opening Day

Two hundred kids enjoyed opening day at the Ashley Central canal with a boys and girls under 14 focus. Prizes go to the largest fish among boys and girls, measured at local shops for a sponsored contest by the Vernon Chamber of Commerce wild life committee and related clubs. Fishing faced poor planting in Brush Creek Ashley Creek and Dry Fork due to flood conditions, with future planting planned before the weekend.

Ashby Funeral Held On Wednesday in Maeser

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Maeser under the direction of Maeser First Ward. Survivors include his mother Eva Ashby of Vernal, two brothers Ralph and Donald, and two sisters Mrs. Floyd Bingham and Mrs. Earl. The obituary notes Keith Ashby, born February 15, 1931, in Vernal, worked on a ranch and was active in Future Farmers of America at Uintah High School.

Funeral Held Here for David Clark

Funeral services were held for David H. Clark Jr. of Casper Wyoming a former Jensen resident killed last Saturday near Edgemont South Dakota. He was a veteran who served in the armed forces and attended local schools. He leaves a widow and a son. The family resides in Jensen.
