Monument to Winter Quarters Story of Latter Day Exodus

Uintah School District Hires Supervisor for 1936 37

At a sparsely attended Uintah School Board meeting L G Noble served as clerk while E Smith was absent due to bad roads. Burt Noble was empowered to hire Mark Rick s from Murray City as supervisor for 1936 37 with all teachers signing 175 day contracts and paid in 12 installments. Every teacher must be certificated and pupils to receive daily physical education and hygiene instruction. A full quorum is needed for further action on bus issues staff transfers and budget details. A public hearing on the 1936 37 budget will be held June 22 with invites for community attendance.

Dinosaur Team To Play CCC Here Sunday

In the Basin Baseball League a large crowd attended the games Sunday at Vernal and the Dinosaur camp. On Sunday June 7 Vernal hosts Roosevelt Dridgeland plays Myton and Dinosaurs meet CCC at the Fair Grounds with Duchesng having a bye. Rain caused a postponement of some games.

Judge Larson Sets Next Term of District Court in Vernal

Judge Martin M Larson and court staff wrap district court by Monday morning. Next term opens June 15 at 10 for probate and civil matters, June 16 for criminal cases including Jess Morris grand larceny and Ed Yoakum assault, with jurors named for June 16. Three Scout Patrols Enjoy Two day Camporee

Three patrols from Vernal First and Vernal Second wards and Maeser Ward attended the Camporee held over two days. Under Floyd Noel with Commissioner Richard Jensen the group left the courthouse Shey for an unknown destination, hiked to Ashley where camp was pitched at the A Richardson farm. A program of tests and games engaged the Scouts, and on Friday Scouter Leg Thorne led a bird study hike. The boys returned Friday afternoon expressing high satisfaction with the first camporee of the year.

Memorial Day Services For Dr Douglass At Dinosaur National Monument

Memorial Day services were held at Dinosaur National Monument for Dr Earl Douglass and his sister, with over 200 attendees. Vernal Chamber of Commerce sponsored, honoring Douglass and his work uncovering ancient truths, while speeches praised his contributions, echoing calls for continued respect for the past and the monument’s preservation.

Dr A B Reagan Former Resident of Ouray Dies

Provo Dr Albert D Reagan ethnologist and BYU professor died at a Provo hospital after a kidney illness. He spent months at Hot Springs Arkansas on doctors orders and returned to Provo weeks ago. Born January 22 1871 near Maxwell town he worked in the US Indian Service and taught in several states before joining BYU in 1934. He published widely on Indian tribes and legends and was a fellow of the AAAS. He is survived by a wife Otilla Adelaide Reese two brothers two sisters and a number of relatives. Funeral services were held at the Community Church with BYU faculty in attendance and interment at Peoria City Town.

District Legion Convention to Be Held Here

Witbeck Post No 11 American Legion and Auxiliary host District No 6 officers on Saturday and Sunday June 13 and 14 at the Uintah high school auditorium. State and national officers expected including Charles Ro Mabey former governor of Utah. Legion Auxiliary officers L L Pack and Margaret Witcock with aides plan an outstanding district meeting and urge public attendance. A Sunday sightseeing tour is planned to Green Lakes.

Sportsmen Riot Of Roosevelt Clubs Set For June 6 7

Preparations for the annual Sportsmen Riot at Ye Park Canyon hosted by Roosevelt Fish and Game Clubs. The two clubs join to stage events led by the Mens and Womens Fish and Game clubs with programs starting 10 pm Saturday 6. A 1030 pm dance follows at the CCC Camp hall. Sunday begins at 9 4 am with softball, driving, horseshoe pitching, and ladies rifle shoot. Mens rifle, a baseball game, trap shooting, and children's races close the day. Roosevelt and Vernal teams meet in a league baseball game.

Lions Club Delegation Attends Logan District Convention

Delegates from the Vernal Lions club including J C Anderson Hugh W Colton WS Henderson and Glenn IK Miller attended the Logan convention. Accompanying their husbands were Mrs Henderson, Mrs Miller, Mrs Anderson and Mrs Colton. Colton and Henderson were appointed to important committees as delegates arrived in dinosaur costumes and trapper hats to the crowd.

Rodent Control Campaign Shows 80 Percent Kill in Utah County

Utah county rodent control work now in week one achieves about 80 percent kill of prairie dogs and kangaroo rats in sprayed zones along Manila highway and Vernal areas. Pearl Shaffer Heads Uintah County Red Cross Committee

In Uintah County’s Red Cross annual election Pearl Shaffer, Vernal Central School instructor, was chosen chairman for the coming year to succeed W. O. Wall. New officers include vice chairman Archie Johnson secretary Golda Massy and several committee chairs. The chapter reported a successful year with a November roll call, a $225 Flood Disaster fund quota met, and the graduation of more than sixty First Aid certificate recipients from a local school.

Storms End Drought in Uintah Region

Storms across Uintah over the past week brought rainfall that revived the Isasin region and boosted farm and stock water. Vernal measured 14.1 inches of precipitation early in the week with seven inches of soil wetting. Jensen logged similar figures. Reservoirs for stock water rose in level, though some show little water. Rainfall varied by area with heavier amounts in some locales. A snow font was reported at Lock Bawmill on Taylor Mountain.
