Jorgenson and Goodrich Commissioned as Second Lieutenants
Kent Jorgenson and Reneth Albert Goodrich were commissioned second lieutenants in the Engineers Corps at Fort Belvoir Virginia after twelve weeks of intensive training. Jorgenson, who celebrated his twenty first birthday last week, enlisted in the National Guard in 1939 and was attending USAC at Logan when he entered federal service. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Calvin Jorgenson of Lrota. Goodrich, also a member of the National Guard and a former farmer, is the son of Mr and Mrs A M Goodrich. Both lieutenants entered ETN IE in May 1941 and were stationed in California and Puget Sound Washington, embarking August for duty and later sent to Hawaii until March for officers training.

Mrs Eva Ashton chairs the American Legion Auxiliary poppy sale which raised over 100 dollars last Saturday. Twenty volunteers sold about 1000 poppies, taking in more than 80 dollars. Sixty percent of receipts stay local, the rest goes to the State Department HQ at Galt.

John L Lewis is an arch saboteur worse than Hitler could have sent to the United States but submarine Colonel Roane Waring of Memphis Tenn national commander of the American Legion asserted Tuesday in addressing 400 Salt Lake Rotarians and wives at the Hotel Utah. The Legion commander said coal miners themselves are not so much to blame as their leader who is letting his hatred of Roosevelt and the war labor board permit him to sabotage the war effort. I cant see why they execute some saboteurs and leave others alone he said. Surely there is some law to handle Lewis if not America is surely in danger. Returned recently from an official mission to North Africa to view our troops in action against the axis Colonel Waring said soldiers and service men aboard are so grossly concerned with their task ahead that they do not display great interest in home labor conditions. Wait until our boys come home though then they will see to it that actions of crooks racketeers and traitors do not go unpunished the anti Good labor organizations will suffer along with those which have allowed themselves to be dominated by crooks and traitors. Smoldering fire damaged carpet and balcony. water damage occurred but is repairable. Reopening planned within two to three months.

County Commissioners Add Members to Uintah War Price Board
At the regular monthly meeting Uintah County Commissioners approved four new War Price and Rationing Board members Charles D Anderson Ernest M Johnson Howard Mayory and Doyle Landon. The appointees were designated by the County Defense Council. The board also approved a part time stenographer for the county agent and a new desk for the office. A grazing service renewal gave the grazing board access to county equipment for fire use. A delegation urged placing the road east of the Naples store into the county program to allow a school year bus route.

SAN DIEGO Cal June 1 Marine Private Maxie Chapoose 22 Ute Indian scout for leathersnecks on Guadalanal recalls his Solomons battle experience. He landed with the first wave to kill the Solomons and reinforced raiders the next day. He slept in a graveyard under Jap fire for 13 hours. His scouts led a small party that killed 36 Japs, captured two machine guns and destroyed two radio stations near Guadelcana. He is a graduate of the Wilterecks Indian School Utah and attended Sherman Institute Riverside Cal. He joined the Marines two days after the declaration of war at Ball Lake recruiting station.

Fishing Opens In All Waters On June 12
Uintah county opens its fishing season on Saturday at 5 am across lakes and streams. Deputy warden Henry Slaugh notes good sow water and prime spots near Ashley and Brush Creeks while higher regions around Oaks Park reservoir attract those with fuel. Daily limits are eight pounds or 26 fish, with a 16 pound or 40 fish possession limit. Resident licenses cost 2 dollars, nonresident 1.50, and regular nonresident 2 dollars, with deer and small game licenses replacing prior year tags.

Son of Uintah Basin Farmer Killed By Runaway Team
Floyd Gerber 16 was dragged to death when a frightened team bolted a wagon on a farm road near Wellington. He was born April 14 1927 in Mapleton Utah and is survived by parents Irvin and wife five brothers Clinton Grant Lloyd twins Austin Keith serving in the armed forces two sisters Mabel Devils and Mom Elma Golding. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Wellington ward chapel conducted by Bishop Asa Draper with burial at Price. The Gerbers were quietly wed in Uintah Basin.
