Premium money of 20286 awarded at the Uintah Basin Junior Livestock Show and Sale in Vernal over Thursday and Friday. Record consignments of 272 animals with 200 fat animals sold. Dee Curfew elected president for 1935, replacing Aaron Wilkins. Curfew previously served as vice president. Grand champion fat steer from Keith Lewis, Duchesne County, sold for 714 dollars to Ashton Brothers at 0.70 per lb. Grand champion fat lamb shown by Tamera Curfew sold for 225 dollars to Sonja Searle at 3.00 per lb. Grand champion fat hog shown by Rickie Merkley sold for 118 dollars to Uintah Sales Barn. Reserve fat hog shown by David Murray sold to Marvin Smith. reserve fat lamb shown by Douglas Hall sold to Ashton Brothers, reserve fat steer shown by Hugh Evans. Vehicle Crashes Into Barricade Injuring Two
A Denver driven 1953 Ford crashed while westbound on U S Highway 40 near Jensen at 7 10 p m. The driver Marvin Bernard Rossman 28, was partly blinded by the setting sun. The car slid and struck a small embankment at a detour entrance, flipping onto its side and back onto its wheels. Injured were Reva Lee Heffer 26 with facial lacerations and Earl Schecter 33 with back injuries. They were hospitalized.

Jensen Pioneer Albert Snow Recalls 9th Birthday Memories
Albert Snow of Jensen recalls his early life spanning 1898 to 1899 in Sanpete County. Born in Fountain Green to Bernard and Anne Snow, he describes Indian era security basements, moving to Springville, and family farming with a five acre garden. He details one near tragedy with a loaded shotgun, school life in a self funded one room building, and a later migration across Utah to Colorado, Price Canyon, Butte Montana, and back. He and his brother Seymour and Rube Barton hunted for horses and discovered Elk Horn mine vein near Butte, later learning a rival claim had been located.

Magpie Derby Offers Prizes in Uintah County
The Vernal Red and Gyn Club sponsors the Magpie Derby through its game committee led by Dale Jensen. Uintah County and Utah fund pay five cents per magpie head and two cents per egg, with five points per head and two per egg awarded by the Gun Club committee. Top point winners receive prizes including a fishing creel and pole, future $10 store certificates, a bow and arrow, and an English racer bicycle, with additional prizes in August. Prizes can be won in multiple rounds and eggs/heads are collected at the county courthouse agenda office.

Former Basin Indian Priest Returns to Nevada
The Rev. Joseph F. Hogben, known as Father Joe the buckaroo priest, returns today to minister to Indians at St. Mary the Virgin Mission in Nixon Nevada among the Paiute. Ordained 1935, he previously served Nixon 1937 to 1941 and led All Saints Episcopal Missions in Salt Lake. He earned magna cum laude from Syracuse University.

Vernal City Council read and approved third time ordinances granting gas franchise rights to Greeley Gas Company and Loran L. Laughlin to construct and operate a gas transmission and distribution system in Vernal. The Utah Public Service Commission has applications from both contenders while Uintah Basin Natural Gas Company and local residents push for hearings and a municipal ballot on a city gas system.

Golf Course Work Day Planned
A general work day at Vernat Golf Course is set for Friday June 10 chaired by C L Johnson with Deb Casada and Les Miracle in charge of the event. A smorgasbord will follow the day’s work at the course with the public invited and those not working will be charged for the picnic. Fishing opens with variable yields across regions
Ovahangiers, anda unitaed 170,000 strong crowd streams and reservoirs for the game fish season opener. In Vernal and nearby areas fishing ranged from excellent to poor, with Ashley and Brush Creek seeing better results due to fall plantings from Crouse and Calder reservoirs. Moon Lake and Jones Hole were fair to poor with Jones Hole yielding large fish but fewer total catches. Fish Lake Panguitch Navajo Lakes open June 11, High Uintas open June 25, season runs 136 days to October 9.

Survey Begins on Pacific Northwest Pipeline Section
Surveying starts on the Pacific Northwest natural gas line from Jensen to near Green River Wyoming. Spread 5 covers 77 miles under contract to Associated Pipeline Contractors Inc Houston for construction and S E Huey Louisiana for surveying. Huey has completed 35 miles and will finish 40 more by mid July.
