Vernal City approves five percent pay hike for workers

Cattlemen vote yes in 1977 beef referendum
Vintah and Doggett County cattlemen backed the national uniform collection plan by 66 percent in a July 20 tally at the ASCS office. If two thirds approve, a tax of three tenths of one percent on cattle sales will fund beef promotion research and consumer information, with an estimated thirty to forty million dollars yearly administered by two Beef Boards of 68 members.

FAA funds approved for Vernal east west runway project
County Commissioner Melvin J. Burke said the FAA approved its share of the east west runway project at Vernal Municipal Airport. Schocker Construction Co. was the low bidder at 501635. The project was budgeted at 500000 with FAA paying 91 percent while State Aeronautics, Uintah County and Vernal City cover the rest. The scope includes a 4200 foot runway, paving, drains, lighting, painting and markings.

Dinosaurs to Return to Vernal Utah in Unique Display
Utah State Parks plans a dinosaur garden and prehistoric nature trail at the Natural History Museum in Vernal. The Porter collection of 14 fiberglass replicas and one woolly mammoth, valued at 130000 dollars, will be purchased and relocated for display. The exhibit, created by Professor Elvert Porter, highlights world class fossil art and plans include transport from Orderville in the fall.

The Utah Transportation Commission allocated 20000 to safety projects in Duchesne and Uintah Counties while Daggett County did not request funds. A July 13 committee endorsed using 1.5 million Safe Sidewalk Funds to install pedestrian safety features with a formula based on crashes population and school children. The Duchesne River Road U-35 project will pave about 0.24 miles at the east end, with a total of 4.4 miles planned.
