Stephen Bud Williams, 25, burglary. Mannsid Christiansen, 18, juvenile detention. Authorities pursued near Hotel Vernal, recapturing the others at 2nd East and 1st South. Anastaa fled but was chased.

Pony League Baseball Tilt Underway Here

Ashley Valley Water System Opens This Week
The Ashley Valley Water System begins operation this week after a year of work on a 1.258 million dollar project. The last pipe was installed Friday and lines were pressure tested and sterilized with chlorine. Reservoirs west of Maeser cemetery and nearby areas total four locations with capacities of 2 million gallons and 250 000 gallons each. The pipeline contractor was J Cy Stevenson of Altamont with a bid including materials and installation. Turner Building Supply built the reservoirs and chlorinating facilities at Merkle Park and Ashley Canyon. The system represents a new municipal planning concept in Utah, combining Vernal City water supply with outlying areas for culinary running water to 250 homes.

At a Vernal City Council meeting bids opened for the 1982 curb and gutter project. Ned Mitchell of Altamont won with 40,306 dollars. Other bidders were Martin Campbell and Sons of Vernal and Nelson Construction Co. of Provo. No bids were received for asphalt paving, so Vernal will use city crews to start work soon to fit warm weather. City Manager Buell Bennett noted the need to stay on schedule.

Antelope and buffalo applications run July 23 to July 26 by mail to 1598 West North Temple Salt Lake City. Public drawings at State Capitol August 1 for oversubscribed units. Gilsonite Firm Labor Contracts Are Now Settled
Employees of American Gilsonite Company and Bonanza Trucking Company members of United Steelworkers Local 4281 have settled labor contracts for the coming year. The package includes a 5 cent per hour raise, one additional paid holiday, double time and one and one half pay for holidays worked, and a comprehensive Blue Cross and Blue Shield group insurance plan paid by the company with dependents covered under the same plan. The local negotiating committee included Deward Murray, Pete Murray newly elected president of Local 4201, Fact Gross, retiring president, and Don Bullock.

Car Hits Pole Knocks Out Power in Vernal Area
A 14 year old driver, Gordon D Purcell, hit a utility pole near South North and Vernal Avenue causing a power outage in Vernal. The Pontiac sedan damaged the pole, hot wires shorted, and fuses blew. The driver fled the scene. Owner, Rol land Burnite, had loaned the car to Irven LeRoy Nausz who lent to Purcell. Purcell lacked license and failed to control the vehicle. Vernal Lions Glaucoma Clinic Held Thursday
Vernal Lions announced a glaucoma clinic set for Thursday at Uintah High School from 7 40 to 9 30 pm. Algin Weeks chair of the Vernal Lions safety committee said Utah Ophthalmological Safety will provide eye physicians with help from the Utah Commission for the Blind the Utah Society for Prevention of Blindness Uintah County doctors and three public health nurses. About 20 Lions and Lady Lions will supply medications and volunteers to run the event as glaucoma remains a leading cause of blindness in the United States.

National Guard Advance Unit Arrives Home
Captain Nelson J. Marshall, commander of the Vernal National Guard unit, returned home Sunday with 170 men in an advanced detachment from active duty in the Bertin crisis. The vanguard will stay on state duty until August 14, unloading equipment from 250 factories and prepping armories for the return of other troops.
