Amish County released precincts and registration dates for the forthcoming elections. Burnell Haws To Head Utah Wildlife Federation

Burnell Haws of Ganes was elected president of Utah Wildlife Federation at a board meeting in American Fork. His appointment is effective immediately, succeeding Jack Allshouse who sought a State House bid. Jack C. Turner of Gilnes becomes vice president for District No. 3, covering Uintah Duches Wasatch counties. Haws has eight years on the state board and 16 years in sports men’s affairs, including Ver nal Trad and Gun Club leadership. The Federation unites 25 affiliated clubs with about 7000 members statewide.

Tools Stolen From Vernal Firm Valued At 4000 Dollars

About 4000 dollars worth of oil tools and equipment were reported stolen from Need Roller Blt Co east of Vernal during the weekend. Items include bits cutters and hole openers with the latter valued at 1175 dollars each. The theft occurred inside a fenced lot and investigation continues under Deputy Sheriff Carl Schoenberger.

Vernal Escapee Back in Cell Gets 100 Days

Judge Earl Freeman sentenced 20 year old Stephen Barry Anastos to 100 days in Uintah County Jail for the jail escape. Anastos was one of four prisoners who tunneled out Sunday by locking the jailer in their cell. three were recaptured, but Anastos fled as officers approached and stole a car parked at 177 West 1st South. The vehicle, registered to D F Ledy of Vernal, had ignition keys in place. The escapee was later spotted in Spirit Lake by Dick Bennett of the Utah Fish and Game Dept who persuaded him to surrender.

Clinic Uncovers 15 Suspected Glaucoma Cases

Fifteen suspected glaucoma cases were found at two public eye clinics held at Uline High School last Thursday. 277 people were examined by eye physicians and two local doctors. 3% were flagged as suspects, higher than Utah’s 2% average. Officials note glaucoma risk rises after age 40.

St Pauls Gains New Minister From California

The Rev. Richard D. Thomson was appointed minister of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Vernal. He and his wife Susan bring four children and will lead services as the church resumes a resident pastor after Rev. Alan C. Tull departed about a year ago. Thomson, born in Minneapolis, studied at the University of Minnesota and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific Berkeley. He previously directed St. Lukes Manor in Monrovia and worked in funeral service in Minnesota and California. He enjoys hunting and fishing but has had little time for those activities recently.

Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo Opens This Weekend at Fairgrounds

Advisory Group Reviews Policies On Multiple Use

The panel reviewed range development planning recreation improvements timber sales and use control on the Altonah and Roosevelt ranger districts. Members contribute their time and expenses and operate under Department of Agriculture regulations advising the Forest Supervisor in administration of the National Forest.

Vernal Youth Hurt After Truck Fall Injures Teen

Derell Weeks, 18, Vernal, Utah, suffered a possible skull fracture concussion and broken right ankle after falling from a truck Tuesday evening in Vernal at about 2:15 p.m. Douglas Lloyd Barber, 21, Provo, the truck driver, rushed Weeks to Uintah County Hospital in a fruit-delivery mishap. Weeks sat on fruit boxes and toppled over when he leaned toward the driver to direct him to another home. The truck was moving slowly at the time.

Pease Bros Build 55-Mile Gas Pipeline Project

Pease Brothers Company of Vernal won the contract to construct the 65 mile main gas line from the San Angelo area in Grand County to Island Unit in Uintah County. The project includes a compressor station in the San Arroyo field in northeastern Grand County, with Fluor Corporation awarded the station work and Sinclair Oil and Gas Company a related contract. Funeral services for a Vernal area crash victim were scheduled in Heber 4th Ward chapel for Mrs. Sarah Luella Peterson Atwood, 22, whose husband Hollis Atwood, 21, remained hospitalized with chest and internal injuries.
