Brown's Park Lynching Drives Outlaws From Old West
Dramatic episode from Brown's Park in Routt County in late February 1888 ends with the lynching of John Bennett after Sheriff Nieman and undersheriff Farnham pursue Johnstone and Bennett for murder and cattle theft. Tracy and Lant, Utah convicts, are captured after gun battles and later escape and recapture in a lengthy pursuit across Lookout Mountain and Lahore Canyon. The tale, known from a manuscript found at Two Bar Ranch and later published, details Hoy's death, Bennett's execution, and the volatile chase that defined the era at Brown's Park.
