Hollis Freestone, a 16 year old Vernal High student, died of non contagious spinal meningitis Friday. Funeral held Saturday at the Freestone home with Bishop Calder presiding. He was active in music and student government and is survived by parents Mr and Mrs George Freestone and siblings. burial at Vernal cemetery.

State to Start Work on Dinosaur Road by August First
The eight mile Dinosaur Road between US46 and Dinosaur National Monument will be maintained by the state with a maintenance crew starting this week. Federal funds provide 6500 for this project while the state plans to grade and keep the road in travelable condition, spending about 1100 annually. Bids are invited for 18 miles between Myton and Duchesne at a cost of c000 with work to open bids in August and commence soon after.

A government survey party has worked in Vernal for a week extending a precise level line from Mack Colorado through the Uintah Railway to Watson and into the city. Elevations are measured to one tenth of a millimeter with corrections for latitude and curvature. Bronze tablets two miles apart mark the control points, with final elevations computed in Washington. In Vernal they placed two tablets, in the courthouse and post office, with field elevation at the post office building 16 265092 meters. The survey supports nautical charts and numerous engineering tasks including magnetic observatories, gravity, seismological stations, and airway maps.
