Two Oil Wells Spud In Near Vernal Utah County
Drilling began this week at the Gerter oil company's Hudson Sewell site on the north side of Highway 0, six and a half miles west of Vernal. Kerr tc Gee contractors use a 138 ft rig to reach 6,000 ft, with potential extension to 8,000 ft. Water is piped from the Ashley canal. A second well, Vernal Oil and Gesny tinger No 1, will be drilled 1 1/2 miles northwest of Vernal in Dry Park Canyon. Both rigs operate 24 hours with multiple crews and cable tool methods. A separate sighting of a large saucer-like object seen by Vernal residents was reported near the area, prompting local interest. Community events include small bore shooting contests in Artesia and a Lions Club softball game, amid fundraising for the McKee Drawfish rearing ponds.
