Vernal Sesquicentennial Pageant Delights Basin Crowds

Large crowds praised Vernal July 6 events with a grand pageant depicting the making of a nation and a patriotic program. The parade featured 150 costumes and many communities contributed. the pageant, directed by Miss Iona Woolley, showcased colonial dances and historical tableaux, followed by a noon lunch and a notable patriotic program led by speaker Nephi Morrill.

Wallace Oaks Narrowly Escapes Death by Electrocution

Wallace Oaks, an Ashley Cooperative employee in Vernal, barely survived an electric shock while repairing a washer cord at his Maeser home. He touched live wiring with a pocket knife, sustaining severe burns and two burned fingers. his wife intervened, removed the cord, and administered first aid. He remained unconscious for two hours, but no bones were broken and he is able to move about with limited hand use.

Uintah School Board Approves $171000 Budget for Year

At the Uintah School Board meeting on Wednesday June 30 the budget for the coming year was approved totaling 171000 compared with 166000 last year A follow up meeting is set for the 13th of the month to consider bids for a two room school at Deep Creek

Emery Stone Civil War Vet Dies in Colorado at 74

Emery Stone of Jensen Utah, long-time Steamboat Springs visitor, died Monday in Steamboat hospital from stroke effects. Born February 6, 1847, in Maine, he served with the 19th Maine Infantry and the 1st Heavy Artillery. He married Nellie Fairchild on August 11, 1921. Funeral held at Baptist church with American Legion post honors.
