Gilsonite Project Affects Gas Industry Reach

A $10 million Gilsonite program by American Gilsonite Company aims to manufacture high test gasoline and coke, claiming potential to supply up to 100 million barrels of oil competitively. Cigarettes Blamed For Two Fires On Vernal Avenue

Carelessness with cigarettes blamed for two fires Friday on Vernal Avenue. One blaze struck the Ray Siddeway corrals, a mile north of Vernal Avenue, in high wind, with minor damage reported after the Fire Department responded at 2:55 p.m. The second fire occurred in an apartment house. Loyal Broome Hurt as Car Rolls Near Canal Curve

Loyal Broome sustained a severe bead laceration when a car rolled over on the Mighline Canal bridge three miles west of Vernal. The driver and hitchhiker were unhurt. Broome was listed in good condition Thursday after the incident reported by Highway Patrol officers.

Petition for Municipal Gas Vote Presented in Vernal

A mass meeting is planned after a petition to put the municipal gas question to a vote was presented to Vernal Mayor Ralph Siddeway. Of 272 contacted, 216 signed. 187 signatures were required. The Citizens Sponsors Committee for Municipal Gas notes strong community cooperation and will host discussions with attorneys and a qualified engineer before the August mass meeting. Hank Thompson and the Brazos Valley Boys will perform at Imperial Hall in Vernal, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., part of a Western Swing tour.

Funeral rites for Bishop John Eaton held in Vernal

Ardent church worker and former bishop John Burton Eaton 74 died Monday at a local hospital. Burial was at Vernal Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, two sisters, three brothers, and others.
