Crowds packed Vernal for the three day rodeo and parade with more than $3000 in prizes awarded. Fishing opens high waters bring bountiful catches
The opening of the fishing season in high country streams drew a large turnout on Tuesday with many anglers reporting limits by dawn. Game Warden Fred Reynolds noted the North and South Forks yielded twelve or seven fish, while Oaks Park saw weights for unusually large catches. Former Vernal Rodeo President Recalls Early Shows
Jack Douglass of Greybull Wyoming, a former Vernal rodeo president for 1937 38 39, attended the 1952 show and recalled how riders were locals and cattle were driven from Rock Springs. He noted public subscriptions funded early rodeos and that the event became self sustaining in 1939 with 1600 dollars in the treasury. Douglass, now a 300 acre ranch owner, said he enjoyed the current show and will always cherish Vernal rodeos.
