Handy Returns Home From Germany After Army Service
Thomas L Handy son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Handy Vernal arrived home Jan 2 after three years in Germany with the US Army Specialist Handy spent two years in Berlin and a year in Mannheim in the Armored Intelligence Branch He reenlisted for four years and will report to Ft Riley Kansas Feb 1 Also noted is his cousin Airman Lyle Merzell and relatives in Vernal and Naples Utah.

Tridell Rites Monday Honor Viva Goodrich
Funeral services for Viva Matilda Hunting Goodrich 61 of Tridell were held Monday at 11 a.m. in Tridel Word chapel directed by Bishop Lester Bartlett. She died Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. at a son's home in Tridel of age related causes. Born November 21, 1882 in Malad Idaho to Nathan and Elizabeth Hunting, she married Parley Herbert Goodrich June 22, 1904 in Vernal and later in Salt Lake Temple. Survived by four sons Darrell Layton Forrest Versailles Othello Rae Goodrich and Jennie McConkie in Tridel. 28 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. Burial in Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery.

Olson Nets American Red Cross Life Saving Award
Ralph P. Olson received a life saving award from the American Red Cross, honored for rescuing 6 year old Wayne Wallace at Vernal switching pool in July. Olson, Vernal pool manager last summer, teaches LDS Seminary in Fillmore and lives with his wife Linda and two daughters in Wish.
