Duchesne residents protest Ute Nation resolution demand
About 30 Duchesne residents met with the Central Utah Water Conservancy District to oppose a Ute Tribe resolution. The 13 paragraph proposal sought control over camping fishing and recreation on six of the eight CUWCD reservoirs and five rivers within the Uintah and Ouray Reservation and hunting and fishing rights for individual Utes within the original reservation boundaries. Local officials urged the district to uphold the existing agreement while district leaders proposed forming a cooperative committee with the tribe and state and federal agencies to discuss the proposal.

Garn backs on site OSHA consultation bill in push for voluntary aid
Senator Garn and Senator Demenici co sponsor a bill to provide free on site OSHA consultation to help employers meet the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Garn criticizes OSHA as burdensome and argues the agency focuses on penalties rather than guidance. He says small businesses need clear obligations and accessible assistance to achieve compliance. The plan aims to reduce employer opposition through a voluntary federal program without punitive provisions.
