Water for irrigation falls short of arid lands supply
Washington reports the geological survey found insufficient water to irrigate even ten percent of arid lands west of the 100th meridian. While some localities could profitably irrigate thousands of acres via dams and canals, overall supply remains limited. The study began in 1889 and covered major basins including the Missouri Arkansas Rio Grande and Snake rivers.
