Lions to Raise Funds For Huge Dinosaur Statues
Vernal Utah Lions Club and Vernal Field House plan a fundraising drive to raise 106000 dollars for two cement dinosaur statues with marble like finish. Fire destroys Vernal residence on West 5th North
Fire swept Reed Hall home at 287 West 5th North leaving total loss for the Hall family. Call reached fire department at 9 20 p m Sunday. Neighbors spotted the blaze after an hour of burning. Fire Chief Coke Jeffries said origin is indeterminate. Interior structure was fully ablaze when found. Little clothing survived.

Funeral services were held Saturday in Vernal for eight month old Ellen Batty, daughter of Paul and Isabelle Batty, who died at home Friday from a virus. Snow survey planned on Ashley National Forest
A statewide snow measurement program will begin late this month to aid flood control. Gregory Pearson, soil conservationist from Utah State Sericultural College in Logan, arrives January 31 with snow mobile gear to take measurements on the King's Cabin snow course about 35 miles north. Forest Service officials will accompany him on the Vernal-Manila highway above Steinaker Draw as they use hollow aluminum tubes to core snow to ground level, then compute water content. The data from Utah forests will help predict flood risk and allow precautionary steps before floods begin, aiding farmers planning crops and summer programs.
