Farm land values rise despite lower net farm income
U S agriculture department reports an eight percent rise in farm land values nationwide for the year ending Nov 1, with gains in the South and Midwest and declines only in California and Florida. Despite weaker net income and slipping grain prices, values remain above 1920 peaks in most states and are slow to react to income changes.

Bright Future in Store For Utah Agriculture
Utah agriculture faces variable canning packs as fruit surplus and growing conditions shift. In 1947 fruits accounted for 3.4 percent of the total pack, down from 6 percent in 1946, with cherries and apricots forming a large share. Utah sweet and sour cherries and apricots show strong quality, though size and tree care limit marketable cuts. Water development, including Pineview reservoir and Provo river projects, promises expansion of acreage and new peach trees, aiming to create a wide fruit belt from Logan to Spanish Fork.

Utah fruit markets face quality issues and need contracting reforms
A report finds Utah fruit lacks consumer preference in several markets due to uneven size and quality, careless handling, and old fashioned containers. It calls for better grading, longer term contracts with canners, new processing facilities, and expansion into jams, brines, and frozen products to boost utilization and market reach.
