New Ski Tow Thrills Uintah County Enthusiasts
More than 50 Uintah county skiers used the Uintah Snow Sports portable ski tow at Dinosaur National Monument on Sunday with ideal snow conditions. Club president Claudius A Banks said park officials helped by leveling a parking area inside the park boundary. The 600 foot tow operated from 11 a.m. to past 5 p.m. Plans call for skiing next weekend near Vernal if Elk Horn Mountain roads are open, with installation at the nearest suitable site.

Democrats Retain Senate Leader as Utah Legislature Opens
Utah’s 28th legislature opened with Democrats regaining control of the House and Republicans solid in the Senate. Sen. Alonzo F. Hopkin of Woodruff was chosen president of the Senate on the first ballot by Democrats with GOP support. In the House, 41 Democrats and 19 Republicans required nine ballots to elect Rep. Ed J. McPolin of Park City as speaker, succeeding Rendell.

Milton James Hersey a retired Episcopal minister who served in Vernal and Myton years ago died at his home in Carson City Nevada early last month at age 82 He was stationed in Myton in 1925 before moving to Carson City where he worked until retirement in 1934 He also served as city councilman from 1945 until his death Funeral services and burial were held in Carson City.
