Ute Indian Director Tells Rotary of Basin Development
Francis McKinley, director of education for the Ute Tribe, spoke to the Vernal Rotary on the tribe’s role in Uintah Basin development. He noted 2,500 to 3,000 Indians with about 2,000 on the reservation, described a move away from Vernal among youth, and outlined planned livestock and waterworks projects as income from federal claims and leases wanes. The talk covered economic impact, new tours, and cooperative projects, with emphasis on transitions and cultural change. Regular club business included inducting two members and a Santa relief effort.
