Pioneer Engineer Albert Halen Dies in Vernal
Albert Halen former United States Land Commissioner at Vernal and longtime Moffat resident died suddenly Wednesday morning at the Commercial hotel. Born in Holland he served in the Dutch navy, studied engineering, and held posts in Wyoming Utah and California before moving to Uintah Basin in 1903. He was about 74, never married, and left a brother in Boston and a sister in Brussels. He planned a trip to California for health reasons when he died in his room after a brief illness.

The federal government claims 114 school sections in the Uintah Basin were mineral lands at the time Utah state title was issued. The state relinquished these lands and listed sections and townships in a notice to be returned to federal control. Assistance sought from state road funds to match federal aid for road and bridge projects in Uintah county, with potential requested federal funding up to 100000 for highway work in 1927.

Vernal Boy Struck By Falling Stump
Ralph Walker twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs George Walker was struck by a falling stump while helping his father cut a ten foot tall stump at their Vernal home. He suffered a facial cut requiring fourteen stitches and was knocked down when the stump fell but is reported to be recovering well.

County Officials Back State Highway Improvements

Uintah high school basketball team the Blue Devils returned Sunday from Utah county after playing Payson Spanish Fork Provo Springville and Cypress with a Second team win over Spanish Fork at Spanish Fork. Payson won 24 22 and Uintah lost close games elsewhere Coach Anderson and Principal Pirton praised the team as many younger players showed skill in co or work and basket shooting.
