Reason Sheep Replace Cattle in Colorado
A recent economic survey of Routt and Moffat counties finds sheep more profitable than cattle in parts of northwestern Colorado over the past 25 years. Lamb prices often exceed cattle prices, with higher per-acre grazing efficiency and varying calf crops, suggesting small farms struggle unless prices stay favorable.
