Dinosaur National Monument Embraces Vast Untouched Western Wilds

The Dinosaur National Monument spans Utah and Colorado, safeguarding fossil quarries and spectacular canyons along the Green River. Excavations by Carnegie Museum Pittsburgh and later Smithsonian and University of Utah revealed famed brontosaurus and allosaurus skeletons. The area, rich in frontier lore about Butch Cassidy, sits amid dramatic geologic sections and ages of rock. In 1958 the monument expanded to 203,883 acres in Moffat and Uintah counties. Over 10,000 visitors were counted in 1940, with most drawn to fossil quarries still in early development, and access remains limited to select roads and trails under a coordinating superintendent.

He advises using high quality roughage such as first cut alfalfa, mangels, carrots, beet tops, and sileage, combined with home grown grains and alfalfa hay.
