Two Teenagers Arrested In Vernal Care Robbery

Two teenagers, escapees from a California detention home, are held for investigation of armed robbery at Maude's Cafe. They surrendered at the Commercial Hotel after a moonhunt led by sheriff’s office and allies. A lookout car fled east then south then into a ditch near 5th East and 2nd South.

Friends and Relatives Honor Don Siddoway

A gathering at Maeserchapel on Wednesday marked the final tribute to 17-year-old Don Lawrence Siddoway who died February 25 after a long illness in Uintah County hospital. Born August 20, 1939, to Lawrence Y. and Merle Jensen Siddoway, he was remembered by friends and relatives with music, prayers, and speakers detailing his love for family and the outdoors.

Mass Polio Immunization Drive Planned in Uintah Basin

Ute Speech Team Competes in Weber College Meet Ogden

Uintah High school sent ten students under coach Geral Wilde to the Weber College invitational in Ogden. Eight debaters and two orators competed against 36 schools from four states in Class A. Tarona High School hosts the finish division on Wednesday March 6 with William E. Lewis of Tabiona High as host and Mr Wilde presiding over all events. The debate topic is Resolved that the Federal Government.

Pleas for Activity and Service Made At Uintah Stake Conference

The first Uintah Stake conference of the reorganized LDS Church stressed urgent activity and service to fellow men. Stake President Frank R. Walker led sessions with Vernal Third Ward choir and a prologue by Lucille Calder. Nearly 700 people attended the 10 am session, about 28 percent of the stake membership. speakers included C. Brisa Orlingham, Byron Nipats Harris, Cal Dee Reynolds, and others.

Indian Claims Group Favors Utes in Land Grievance

The United States must pay the Uintah Ute Indians of Utah for about seven million acres taken long ago. The Indian Claims Commission in Washington ruled in two 1949 cases that the Uintahs owned the land until takings for public use or disposal under public land laws. Final acreage and compensation will be decided later, with values pegged to the date of the taking.
